Playstation Connection Issues?

You do realize that Sony shipped (and advertised) the PS3 with the ability to run alternative operating systems right? That really throws the "there's no other reason to run them" out the window.bases_loaded;734222 wrote:Sony and I obviously believe the only reason most people would put a different OS on their product is to access pirated games. I'm sure somewhere in the EULA it says that jail breaking their system is illegal. So if you own it and you agree to the EULA and then you jail break it...you figure out the rest.
And they'd have the right to not let you use their PSN service if you break the EULA. But breaking the EULA isn't illegal. Just invalidates your agreement with them. -

Wow, some people just don't take the time to look anything up nor take the time to actually consider possibilities outside of they're tiny world. Some people actually jail break the Playstations to use the hardware with their custom software! PS in general are pretty inexpensive when you consider their computing power! http://www.physorg.com/news148749271.html
Also, jail breaking is not illegal, check this out here...http://www.copyright.gov/1201/ -

Yeah. I love some of the solutions for these machines. I've a couple friends who actually will mod a 360 or PS3 in such a way that it seems to prevent these kinds of problems. They're IT guys who build computers in their spare time. From what I've been told, it works.
Cracks me up, either way. -
bases_loadedSo its cool to have my service fucked with BC some geek wants to stick up for nerds? Give me a break.

We weren't talking about the hacking of PSN. We were talking about jailbreaking individual PS3s and how that is by no means illegal and Sony is being a cockbag for suing people for it. They have a right and should ban modified PS3s from PSN but beyond that they shouldn't give a shit if people want to do something they don't like with the device someone gave them hundreds of dollars for. -

At the worst, Sony can prevent the PSN from being used by modified PS3s, as it is against their terms of use.I Wear Pants;734289 wrote:You really don't know what you're talking about do you?

If I buy a Sony PS3, and I do not use the PSN, then Sony has absolutely ZERO grounds for suing me for modding my own machine. Actually, even if I do try to use their PSN, they wouldn't have lawsuit grounds, I can't imagine, except maybe for the quantity of resources used to provide him access during his usage (which wouldn't even amount to the legal fees). It's no different than HP trying to sue me for modifying my laptop. -
bases_loadedNetwork is currently down and Im pissed...there goes my lunch break
-
bigkahunaYup down for me too.
I'm not pissed about Sony suing someone for shit I don't understand. I'm pissed that a group of people decided to fuck with Sony's shit because they were pissed about it and in turn fucked up gaming and what not for 3 million+ people.
I have nothing to do with Sony's lawsuit and the pissing match, so why fuck with my service? -

This.
Just use the damn system the way it was intended. If you have a problem with it, then develop your own freaking platform. -

1. Nobody is upset with Sony getting pissed. People just think it's dumb for Sony to think it has some grounds for making sure I use my machine ... to which I own all rights ... they way they want me to.Scarlet_Buckeye;734437 wrote:This.

2. Alternative OS installation isn't even in the ballpark of "pirated software" if it wasn't obtained illegally. Could it be used that way? Sure, but a computer or PDA can be used the exact same way.
3. "The way it was intended" doesn't matter once I own the machine. I can use it as a doorstop if I want, even though that's not for what it was intended. -

I agree and it sucks for everyone affected. But, this was probably one of the more direct ways to damage Sony's reputation as far as gaming goes.bigkahuna;734409 wrote:Yup down for me too.

That's not an endorsement of this.
