Quack Quack Quack. Duck race fundraiser

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    WHEN: 2 April 2011 @ 9pm.
WHERE: McSobers Saloon on the East Coast of Coldwater
WHAT: Fundraiser for press box at Veterans Field @ Memorial Park.

It is that time of year again people! The Annual fundraiser at McSober's. The last few years it has been ran by coaches, personnel, parents and generous community members of the ACME program.

OVer the years this fundraiser has been used to purchase the following:
    1. Infield sprinkler system
    2. Full 9 inning scoreboard.
    3. All new lights and light poles. (took a few years for that one!)
    4. Miscellaneous items such as the 'red dirt' etc over the years.

This fundraiser has raised over 100k over the past few years.

It has been a very good fundraiser for the Village owned diamond.

IF you are not familier with this event it is a blast.

    Typical agenda:
    1. 50/50
    2. Raffle tickets
    3. Auction items (partial list will be posted, and updated as items added)
    4. Duck race wagering.

Post time is 9pm on 2 April. Typically is 5 races, first auction, 5 races and then the final auction.

The races are actual live baby ducks in running races on a vertical facing straight line track. Each race has ten ducks. You wager on a duck before each race and what you win depends on how many people bet on your particular duck. Before each race after they take in the bets the organizers tell everyone how much they win if their duck wins. I have seen winnings from as little as 5-6 bucks to upwards of 60-70 bucks in a race.

SOME of the auction items will be, most of them signed :

    Dragons suite for 15 people + 2 parking passes & 15 hats.
-- Muirfield Tickets to the Wednesday Practice Round & Pro-Am (4 tickets).
-- Autographed Brandon Phillips ball w/ engraved plate of his Cardinals rant.
-- Week stay in an Ocean Front Condo @ Myrtle Beach – sleeps 8 comfortably.
    -- Autographed Ross Homan Jersey
-- Other Buckeye memorabilia (traded tattoos to acquire it).
-- 2 Nights Stay (1 Room) @ Belterra Casino (might be adding golf in).
-- Fishing Charter to Lake Erie for 5 from Blindside Charters
-- Luxury Box Package (includes food & drinks) @ Veteran’s Field for Coldwater game (April 21st).
    -- Caddyshack
    -- AJ Hawk
    -- Aaron Rodgers
    -- Muhammad Ali
    -- Jay Bruce
    -- Joey Votto
    -- Aroldis Chapman
    -- Kenny Anderson
    -- Ben Hogan
    -- Phil Mickelson
    -- Cory Luebke
    -- Woodstock
    -- Michael Jackson
    -- Larry Bird
    -- Jimi Hendrix
    --Bobby Knight

WIll be updated as items are added.

For those who have seen this event go ahead and post your testimonials. It is a blast watching these ducks race!

The duck races are run by a group named I believe the Birdville Crooners.

This may be a stupid question...but how did you acquire the items for auction? Were they donated, purchased at a discounted rate, purchased by a private individual then donated? Just curious. It would be nice to have a similar event in my town to support local facilities, but would have no idea how to acquire items worth auctioning.

An owner of a sporting good store goes to a couple of events that sell these items at a decent price for events such as this. Think he goes to Florida and some place out west but I forget exactly where. He also gets them for a few other fundraisers in the area.

Some of the items are donated and such as we are fairly lucky to have some contacts and such. It does help to have some local guys who have done pretty well in the sporting arena and have contacts to get more stuff.

There is a place that advertises on 700 WLW that sounds like a GREAT deal. You dont pay for them up front, you get them almost on consignment. Ya know how much they are so if ya dont sell them (make sure there is a minimun ya accept as bids) they will take them back.

I am not exactly sure what the company is called though

    thanks, good luck this weekend.

Thanks. It has raised some great money the last number of years. The biggest project was all new lights and light poles for the diamond. Those were around 80-90K

I have been there in the past, and it is a great time. If anyone is in the are, I recommend checking it out.

    revgat....you from the area?

It is def a good time, for a great cause as well. As I said, in the past this has paid for a sprinkler system, full 9 inning scoreboard, other misc stuff such as some brick dust for the diamond, very nice hose rolling stand for the infield, all new lights and light poles and such. This one is to help pay for the H U G E pressbox. It has tripled the previous one for the town owned diamond at Memorial Park in Coldwater Ohio. We try to raise $$ for items that will be long standing.
