Best Country Song in the last 10 years?

  • Steel Valley Football
Btw, I like Telluride as my favorite Leroy song right now...although it changes for me. My other favorite right now is Out on a Mission. I just made a disc for my buddy and took it to Warren last Saturday and put Mission and River in the Rain on it.

You know, if you have the Telluride file handy I wouldn't be mad at cha if you sent it to me. ;)

It's on my other machine but I can send it to you tomorrow or Monday.

Telluride would be my #3 Leroy song.

Does Johnny Cash's performance of NIN's Hurt count?

No because it's a song liked mainly by people who think Cash is hipster cool for covering Trent Reznor. In other words, it's trendy and not what Johnny Cash will be remembered for.

    I couldn't disagree more.

So Johnny Cash with be remembered more for Hurt than his Sun Records stuff? If that's what you think then you're smokin' some crazy Cheech and Chong dog-shit weed.

As far as the question at hand, I'd have to say Southside of Heaven by Ryan Bingham and it's not even close for me....then again I'm not a radio DJ.

I love Southside, but I still think Ever Wonder Why is best song on Mescalito.

"And what you're hearing now is something I found hiding way down inside.
In the cellars of my heart."

It's a great song, I agree, but you would have never heard it had it not been for Southside. I will admit for me personally Southside has already been "overplayed" and I don't listen to it as much, but that's like saying Zeppelin's Four Sticks or Misty Mountain Hop is better than Stairway...even though some people (like me) can barely tolerate Stairway because of the radio play. Same with Freebird or Sweet Home Alabama. I can list 20 Skynyrd songs that I'd rather hear that those two.

To me, the best acoustic numbers on Mescalito are Don't Wait For Me and Big Country Sky....but I'm glad I'm able to even have this conversation with someone. Ryan Bingham is the best "unknown" artist out today.

I don't listen to the radio at all, but is RB on the radio? I didn't think he was. I read about Mescalito in like Rolling Stone back when it came out which is how I found it. My family and roommates are tired of RB because I play him constantly, but I can't get sick of the sound. It's just so good.

But Big Country Sky? Why don't I have that? I have
    Southside
    Other Side
    Bread and Water
    Don't Wait For Me
    Boracho Station
    Sunshine
    Travelin' Jones
    Hard Times
    Dollar a Day
    Take it Easy Mama
    Long Way from Georgia
    Ever Wonder Why
    Sunrise
    FWIW/Best in Me

as the 14 song Mescalito album.

We're kind of changing the thread, but I don't care. :)

    Top 5 RB Songs:
    Ever Wonder Why
    Dylan's Hard Rain
    The Poet
    Hallelujah
    Sunrise

No particular order. Really hard to leave off Dollar a Day, Don't Wait for Me, Southside, FWIW/Best In Me, Snake Eyes, Lay My Head on The Rail, and Tell My Mother I Miss Her So.

I'm not the one that's smokin' anything if you think 'Hurt' won't be part of the Cash legacy.

The thread was best country song of the last ten years, well, considering what it was written for, they lyrics, and the artist being as big as he is, "Where were you (When the world stopped turning") would have to be a top 5 song of the last ten years.

Sorry, I pick my songs up one at a time downloading and just assumed it was on Mescalito. It's actually on one of his self-released albums called Dead Horses. I'm emailing it to you from my Yahoo acct...tell me what you think.

It will be a side note in his legacy because that's exactly what it was. The people who discovered Johnny Cash when Hurt and Personal Jesus came out will be the ones who disagree.

    Agree completely.

Everything on any of Jamey Johnson's CD's...
Justin Moore's whole first album, especially "Grandpa"
Guys like Me, Lotta Boot Left to fill--Eric Church
I Go Back, Old Blue Chair--Kenny Chesney
    More Like Her--Miranda Lambert

Two new songs that will be hits very soon that IMO will be on this list when we look back a few years from now...."Outlaws like Me" by Justin Moore. It will be the title track to his new CD coming out in few months. Saw him perform this last summer @ the Hartford fair and it's a GREAT song. And "Country Boy" by Aaron Lewis...as in the Aaron Lewis that is the lead singer of Staind. He just released his debut solo country album. If you haven't heard it yet, check it out on youtube. Song features George Jones and Charlie Daniels on the fiddle.

Good list of faves, RSP, but I would replace "More Like Her" with "New Strings". IMO, that's one of ML's better country songs.
    ..............

    Blake Shelton anyone?
