TiernanDef more prevalent in the AA community. Note I said "prevalent" not "acceptable"...don't know if AA community accepts it as a majority or not. But if they don't it's time they took care of problem internally.

The people there were completely in control of their actions, which is why they have no excuse.Def Leopard;722814 wrote:O, there is a primary difference between taking care of yourself first and losing control because you didn't get what you wanted at a fast food joint?
Also, when I said "self-serving," I didn't mean "taking care of yourself first." I meant living life by taking care of and indulging yourself ONLY. Somewhere in their mind, they were completely justified in doing what they did, because for whatever reason, they believe that what they want (both for themselves and out of others) warrants acting that way.
I'm not saying it does warrant that behavior. I'm just saying that doing that is very much an "animal instinct" behavior: the behavior brings them some level of subjective satisfaction, and at the end of the day, that's all that matters to them.
Oh, I'm not saying it's justified, and I'm not saying everyone acts this way. Many of us have stronger reasons NOT to behave that way. But for those who don't, it's an unfortunate inevitability.Def Leopard;722814 wrote:"Just the way we are?" I'm sure you don't conduct yourself in that manner and neither do I.
I agree, but I think our young people need to not only learn not to act like that, but to know that there will always be others who do. It's not a good or admirable thing. It's nothing toward which we ought to strive. But it's a reality of the imperfect condition of human nature.Def Leopard;722814 wrote:If this type of behavior is just shrugged off what message does it send to our young people. This is not acceptable behavior and that has to be reinforced.
That's all I meant by that.
If anything, people who behave this way should be pitied. That isn't to say they shouldn't be dealt with under our legal system. It's to say that it's a shame that they were never taught, or have never learned, a way of conducting themselves that sets human beings apart from the rest of the animal kingdom. -

Actually, the problem seems prevalent in urban communities. If you go to southern California, there are several cities where black people are not even the #1 minority, but this problem is the same.
The carnal survival attitude is what seems to spur it on. White, urban communities show it a LOT as well. Latin ones do, too. The correlation has much more to do with the economic or urban state of a community than any ethnic connection. -
stroupsPolice brutality guy + this dumb bitch and friends = Glorious bloodshed.
I know people make racist jokes comparing black people to monkeys, but this bitch reminded me exactly of a pissed off gorilla the way she was climbing on the counter and throwing stuff. -

ManO'WarIt's really sad how some people conduct themselves in public.
The worst part is that they don't even know they act like that. -

“We tore the Burger King up,” she remarked. “I don’t play no games.”
Describing herself as a “first time spring breaker,” Smith, a mother of four, said she had traveled Friday to Florida with friends and three of her children, the youngest of which is two and has cerebral palsy. In anticipation of a night of drinking, Smith, pictured in the above mug shot, said she went to the Burger King to “get something in my stomach.”
After arriving at a police substation, Smith asked cops “where her children were at.” She then told officers “she had her 2 children with her” at the beach. But when an officer sought details about the children, Smith was uncooperative and “very vague.” Cops did not have enough information to report the children as missing.
A restaurant manager told TSG that the eatery suffered minor damage during the incident, but that no worker was injured. Smith, free on $500 bond, has a court appearance next Wednesday.
Arguing that Burger King employees bear some responsibility for the altercation, Smith said, “When I walked in they had no smiles on their faces. We weren’t treated fairly." Having herself previously worked at McDonald’s and Church’s Chicken, Smith added, “I know how to greet my customers.”
“If I knew what was gonna happen,” Smith said, “I would’ve gone to Taco Bell.” -

Ok, so I don't mean to be an ass even though I'm probably coming off as one in this argument. But if there is an epidemic, how frequently are you involved or witness to these public brawls, and what will you do to fix it?
Don't let statistics and math get in the way of everyone's broad based generalisations of the degradation of society. -
