Now I know why some companies fail - Blockbuster Closing Sale!

  • rydawg5
I walk in. The first thing I see is 40% off. Not bad. However, it was 40% for a 24 pack of Dasani water bottles.

The crack squad of pricemakers at Blockbuster, priced this 24pk of water at $39.99 -- 40% off made this 24pk bottle of water $22.

I turn around and tell the guy this is the funniest thing I've ever seen. He responds "is that expensive? I have never bought a pack of bottled water.. I'm a tap guy"

Regardless of if you've ever bought it, you have to at least notice that most 24 packs of water are between $4-$6 .. right?

Anyway, just another reason why a failing company just doesn't get it.

Their logic was that of a 5 year old "So we sell these bottles for $1.50 each, that means a 24pk for $22 is a great deal!"

Real world alert: you're retarded Blockbuster.

If this is true that is hilarious. My kids (ages 7-9) would even know more about the price of a 24 pack of bottled water.

Of course it's true.. not something I'm going to exaggerate ;)

Well, yeah.. Some are store closing sales. Others, I believe, are independent franchises that are still able to operate.

There's a lot of legal things going on with Blockbuster. They are looking for someone to buy the company and have different ways to operate in some ways while going through the bankruptcy. (I think)

Yeah, I went to one of these "Closing Sales" near my house and that pricing mentality was for everything. I thought I'd go and get some discounted PS3 games and they were selling those at 10% off of the Original Brand new Price! Buying nothing in that sale would have been considered a deal and could have gotten somewhere else at a better price! Seriously a joke!

First off, this "tap" guy is a MAJOR retard/drug user. Second, cinema price do not work at blockbuster... I have not paid for a movie there in over a year... If you raise a big enough stink about their limited new release selection (which they claim is limited due to the current financial situation) they will give you a voucher. No wonder they are in a financial situation...

I stopped by a Blockbuster a couple weeks ago wanting to rent Due Date, but instead the place was having a blowout sale because it was closing. Good riddance, losers. Any employee that I ever encountered there was a jackass.

The sad part is, some person is going to buy that 24pk of bottled water for $22, thinking its a steal.

These close out sales are typically run by third party liquidators. I'm assuming that is what is going on at your Blockbuster store. These companies come in, buy all the store's merch, jack up the price and try to sell you on the discount. Sometimes you can get a decent deal, but more often than not you get ripped off.

Blockbuster has always been over priced and terrible. Give me Family Video any day of the week.

Yeah....places have stupid "deals" all the time. For instance...PEnneys a month or so ago. I go in and see pants for buy one, get the other half off. OK...cool. I buy pants there alot and figured it would be a great deal. Come to see the first pair were around 50 bucks..so two pair for 75. Now...I have purchased pants there before when they are around 25-30 bucks each.

So..yeah...it is a marketing gimmick..and it does get people......mostly women...ya know the saying....men will pay three bucks for a two dollar item they need, but women will pay 3 bucks for a 6 dollar item they dont need. IF it says sale....many people are too stupid to notice the difference.

I worked at a Blockbuster back in HS (around 1995-1997) and even back then the company was absolutely retarded, and that's when they were making money hand over fist.
