Manhattan BuckeyeThey were too kind to Casey - J-Lo wanted to rip into him. Great guitar player but that vocal was screeching. Pretty much every bar band played Smells Like Teen Spirit in the early-mid 90's and most of them did a better job.

bigdaddy2003Is anyone else just not a huge fan of the contestants this year? Every year I can find something I like about most of them but this year it seems like I can only get into 3 or 4.
-
daveI like more this year than most years, tonight wasn't the greatest night though. It's hard when you only have 1 year to pick from.

WebFirePia. Winner. Stop the show. Close the thread.

I'd like to get into Pia!
Pia is a pop star. Frankly, I am surprised with her voice and her looks she has not made it as a pop singer before now. My favorite however is James. His performance tonight was okay, but I really got into his performances the past couple weeks.
There are a number of performers this week who sing well, but just have not impressed me. Based on the performances tonight, I think Haley is going home. -
HitsRusThis is by far the best year in terms of overall talent. That said, the past two weeks have exposed some weaknesses in some...and some leaders have emerged. Casey Abrams, James Durbin, Pia Toscano, Jacob Lusk, and Scotty McCreery are your top 5 (not necessarily in that order.) Paul is starting to get annoying....Lauren is cracking under the pressure...Haley is talented but can't find her niche. Naima has everything but a quality voice. Wild cards are Karen and Stephano.

One of the others is going home...take your pick. They'll all be going before those listed above. -
GOONx19I accidently watched two performances, but the Nirvana guy and the last guy were both awful.

GOONx19I would bet you any amount of money this is not true.
-
GOONx19You could change it to 5 and it would still be wrong, unless they both finish in the top 2.

Actually, I did a little research to make sure I wasn't making a fool of myself. Based on the Billboard numbers for record sales, the average yearly earnings for record sales for a third place finisher on the show is $57,793.94. Even if you triple that number for appearances and concert earnings and make it $180,000 a year -- which is highly unlikely -- I'd be willing to bet there's one or two people on the OC who can average $9,000 a year for the next 20 years. Or for my statement, $36,000 a year for 5. -

I haven't watched the show much this year, and apparently this Casey guy reall is good, but that performance (Smells Like Teen Spirit) was absolutely terrible. Guys drunk off their rears sang that song better at my fraternity back in the day. He shouted the entire time and came off like a theme parks singer (to steal a phrase from Simon) that people would walk away from. It was bad, bad, bad, bad, bad. -

Well I suppose you can cherry pick what data you want. I was talking about a single year. Many of the contestants over the years make millions per year and even those lowly finishers who don't usually are able to make several hundred thousand the first year after the show.Actually, I did a little research to make sure I wasn't making a fool of myself. My statement was meant to be more figurative anyway. It really doesn't matter that in your humble musical opinion that the two you watched were "awful". All that matters is that some people are willing to spend their money 'buying' the contestant. -
GOONx19Even your article says that Allen has yet to make a million dollars! The only finishers to make several hundred thousand in their first year without finishing in the top 2 are Tamyra Gray, Josh Gracin, Jennifer Hudson, Chris Daughtry, Kellie Pickler, and Elliot Yamin. That's six. There have been nine seasons, and 12 contestants remain. That means there have been 90 contestants in years past who have made it this far and failed to make the finale. And six of them have made "several hundred thousand" in the first year after their season. I'll take my steady paycheck gladly over those odds.

bigdaddy2003This may be the best year talent wise but I don't believe the winner will be that successful. Just my opinion. Most people I have talked to at my gym have said the same thing. Just not that great of a season.
-
september63Pia should win. She has the looks (obviously) and is very versatile. Many young ppl like Scotty, but all he seems to sing are Travis Tritt songs.

And Garth Brooke and John Michael Montgomery. -

I guess it must be just the people one hangs with.. It is just the opposite for me. Almost everybody around me is enjoying it more...and some who have stopped watching the past few seasons have started watching again. This may be the best year talent wise but I don't believe the winner will be that successful. Everyone I talk to thinks it's great too. Usually at this point you have 2-3 hot girls who can't sing, 2-3 gospel singers, 2-3 lame rock guys/girls, and a couple people who with great voices and with some musical diversity. -
Little DannyThe difference this year is the judges picked the top 12 (actually 13) from 24 instead of letting America vote. Had America voted, people would have voted lesser talented singers through due to personality, looks, popularity and genre of music. What's more you Vote for the Worst types have not advanced (Tim Urban, Sanjaya, etc.). That is what the remaining contestants are so strong from top to bottom.
