Sprint announcing Nexus S 4G, EVO 3D, and EVO View tablet at CTIA?

Love my EVO, looking to get the next one...

    http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/06/sprint-announcing-nexus-s-4g-evo-3d-and-evo-view-tablet-at-cti/

The media -- yours truly included -- has been trying to figure out why Sprint has booked an insane two-and-a-half hour slot at CTIA later this month. That's not the kind of event you throw together just to rehash the devices you've introduced over the last half year -- something's up, and if our source is correct, they're up to something big.

First, we're hearing that the carrier will launch the Nexus S 4G from Samsung, and judging from the name, the phone should be something akin to a Nexus S with WiMAX. It seems this one could be either the SPH-D600 or SPH-D720, both of which have recently received certification from the Wi-Fi Alliance, though the SPH-D720 is more likely; the D600 shows WPS support, which is available in TouchWiz-skinned devices but not in stock Gingerbread. You might recall that Sprint came very, very close to launching its own version of the Nexus One before dropping it in favor of the EVO 4G last year, so maybe they're ready to do the deed this time.

Next, a couple that we don't have much detail on: the EVO 3D, which is... well, a 3D-capable EVO of some sort. 2011 is certainly shaping up to be the year of 3D phones and tablets, so that wouldn't be much of a surprise. The other unit in the mix is the EVO View, a tablet that we're guessing will shape up to be something of a CDMA-powered Flyer. If this all pans out, it's looking like Sprint could own this show. CES was a bit of a dud for them, you might recall -- the EVO Shift 4G was the only handset announcement there -- so they're overdue.

Take it for what it's worth...but we've been asked to verify all the Sprint stores on our store list and will begin ramping up visits starting next month.

Maybe Motorola has something planned for Sprint this summer.

'HTC Shooter' gets benchmarked, might be the EVO 3D? http://www.androidcentral.com/htc-shooter-gets-benchmarked-might-be-evo-3d

Sprint has been coy to say the least about information regarding a true successor to the EVO 4G, but the cat might just be out of the bag if leaked benchmark scores are to be believed. They show a "HTC Shooter" running on Sprint's network along with Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread and a 960 x 540 resolution screen. In addition, the Adreno 220 GPU found on board is set to be paired with Qualcomm's upcoming slate of dual-core Snapdragon processors - meaning that something along the line of the 1.2 GHz MSM8660 Snapdragon CPU is a real possibility for this device.

The benchmarks themselves are quite impressive, with the device scoring 22.7 fps on GLBenchmark 2.0 Egypt. For comparison's sake, the Tegra 2-powered Atrix 4G got a score of 19.4 fps on the same test.

EVO people, please take short breaths. Sprint should be announcing a bunch of things at CTIA on March 22, so you won't have to wait long to find out. Until then, take to the EVO's section of the Android Central Forums. Please? [GLBenchmark via PocketNow] Thanks to MedioGringo for the tip!

Valid...but I look at tablets in the same light as Laptops were about 4-5 years ago. At that time, everyone had a desktop computer...and would then get a laptop if you wanted to be portable. Now, everyone gets laptops for their home, and you get the tablet if you want to be portable. The market for tablets is there, and I think you'll see it start picking up big time by the end of the year.

I agree but rarely ever bring my laptop out of my house..... If tablets weren't so expensive and novelty right now, I would get one for movies, etc while traveling but can't imagine spending the money for how infrequently I would use it.
