-
vball10setgood Lord, this is a tragedy--a parents worse nightmare
-
wildcats20He died on the court after a celebration. IN FRONT OF THE WHOLE CROWD.
This is absolutely a tragedy. Unbelievable. Incredibly sad. ESPN just did a little piece on it, showed a few pictures. One of the player being lifted by his team mates and then the next with a couple girl in the crowd with an unforgettable look on their face. Wow. -
IliketurtlesIm very interested to see what happened to cause this. Terrible for the friends and family though. At least he went out a winner...
-
wildcats20Cardiac Arrest.
-
IliketurtlesThanks wildcats. Im at work so I hadn't gotten to see if they'd annouced the cause or not when I read about it earlier this morning nothing was listed.
-
wildcats20I haven't read the article posted, but that is what they said on ESPN.
-
wildcats20He was also the school's QB. Looks like he was just an overall great kid. So sad.
ESPN also just said another student died last January(2010) of a seizure in his home after a wrestling match. -
Pick6man...sad, sad story.
-
sportswizuhrdThis is remarkably sad. Such a horrible tragedy and I can't imagine going through what his teammates, classmates and fans in the stands(let alone his parents and coaches) went through Thursday night. Craziness.
Didnt realize until I just saw an update about this story a few minutes ago, but Friday was the 21st anniversary of Hank Gather's death. -

Thankfully he didn't literally die on the court. He was pronounced at 2240. That is the only upside of the saddest thing I have heard of in recent memory.
Do not make me go on my rant about pathetic physicals given to HS students though. This is preventable if a school district spends the money to get everyone the proper testing. It shows up on a ECG and he wouldn't have been cleared to play had it been done. -
SykotykCinciX12, most paramedics are unable to make the determination whether someone is dead or not in the event of cardiac arrest. They're required to continue resuscitation until they get to the hospital where a doctor will make the call.
So, yes, he very well easily could've died on the floor and was unsuccessfully brought back throughout the next hour-plus.
Without that said, it is a unbelievable tragedy for his family, friends and everyone who attended the game. It's always so humbling for someone so young and in such apparent health to die from something most often associated with the elderly or at least middle-aged group.

Ridiculously sad.
