American Idol... the Girls
-
Little DannyOverall I thought the guys did a much better job than the girls. The girls all "played it safe" and basically sung cover renditions that were not as good as the original. Randy is turning into the new Simon, but he is correct: If you want to stand out you need to make these songs your own. Here are my thoughts and grades:
Ta-Tynisha Wilson: Nice ta-ta's but the song was not memorable. C
Naima Adedapo: This is what She Na Na's love child with a white guy looks like? JK. In all seriousness, I like her voice. She has a certain old school 1920's quality to her. B
Kendra Chantelle: She's hot, but the song was just ok for me. B-
Rachel Zaveita: This performance was very strange. I felt like I was sitting in a smoke filled lounge hearing glasses clink behind me. She might be on the chopping block C-
Karen Rodriguez: The judges loved her and I think she sang it well. I don't know about switch back and forth from English to Spanish. I felt like I was watching a telethon on Telemundo or something. B
Lauren Turner: She started out slow but she picked up steam towards the end. The judges loved her and I think she will go far. Her biggest hurdle is she is the fat chick surrounded by some hot sorority babe types. B+
Ashton Turner: Very nice performance. She has a nice presence on stage. I think she goes pretty far in the competition B
Julie Zorilla: She's very attractive and hopefully her looks help her stick around for a few weeks. She covered a Kelly Clarkson song that thousands of singers could sing just as well. C-
Haley Reinhart: She's got a nice raspy voice and I find her to be sexy in a trashy sort of way. I think this pushes her through for a while B
Thia Megia: Maybe the second best vocal of the night. This little girl (she's 15 btw) is going to be a star some day. A-
Lauren Alaina: Can't believe she is 16. I saw her mom in the crowd and sadly I think I am older than her. Time passes by so quickly. That being said, girl is a rocker chick and I dig her. B+
Pia Toscano: To take a quote from the movie "Wayne's World" "Sha-wing!!!" She could have walked out on the stage with a sash that read Miss New York and I would have believed it. To top off it off, she lands the best vocal of the night as well. A -
Tiger2003Pia is beautiful.

killdeeragree...the guys were stronger than the girls on the first night.
I have to believe the Idol producers are clamoring..."Hey, someone has to be the 'bad guy'...a whole season of 'hey, I am a fan' and 'you are fabulous' from every judge will just get a little bit old. I really like Steven Tyler and J. Lo on the panel, but they are both really not harsh enough to interest the viewer like Cowell. Randy Jackson has to become the bad guy to rescue the franchise. -
HitsRusThe franchise hardly needs rescued. ALL of the top 24 are pretty darn well talented, and I'm pretty much enjoying a kinder, gentler Idol. I think Simon's sometimes overly harsh critiques skewed the results, causung people to rush to rescue a favorite from elimination and 'sympathy' votes. That said, I thought a few performances could have been graded harsher. I've gotta hunch that when they get down to the top twelve, things will be judged tougher.

vball10setthe guys are better overall, but here's your Idol winner:
Thia Megia: Maybe the second best vocal of the night. This little girl (she's 15 btw) is going to be a star some day. -
HitsRus^^^^ehhh, I don't know. I saw some pretty average performances during Hollywood week. She could go to work for Disney right away. Who knows how a fifteen year old will hold up under pressure. On the other hand, Jacob Lusk is young, but delivers solid powerful vocals time after time. Casey Abrahms is my early favorite to win.

Thia held up pretty well as a 14 year old making it to the semi-finals of America's Got Talent. I think she'll be a finalist, and if she's lucky, she'll lose.HitsRus;698196 wrote:^^^^ehhh, I don't know. I saw some pretty average performances during Hollywood week. muffyThe whole time I watched Karen Rodriquez I thought - this is a Miss America competitio and I'm not talking about looks - it was her song choice, her delivery and how she was dressed. Miss America - not American Idol. The judges were way over the top on complimenting her.
I just read this morning that the producers or whomever felt previous judges were too harsh and not encouraging enough and in some ways they are correct. There was a lot of tearing down rather than building up to give a singer confidence to do more and better instead of being nervous and afraid they will do worse which can become a self-fulfilling prophecy. -
thavoiceDid not get to see the whole episode but what i did see was pretty darnged good. Did not watch much of the auditions as my favorite parts are when the actual competition starts.
Pia is the hottest idol who has yet taken the stage. All the women seemed to have pretty good stage prescense, sans one or maybe two, but for the most part they blew away past seasons from 1-12. Pia, wow, she is downright gorgeous and sexy. -
THE4RINGZI liked the fact that Lauren A. came out and sang a country song. It seemed fitting for her personality, and from a strategy standpoint I think she flew right into the hearts of those same people who will rack up the votes for Scotty McCreery.

I've got to admit that I don't miss Simon at all. I LOVE Steven as a judge and J. Lo needs to toughen up a bit but I like her insight as well. I always hated when Simon would make such harsh comments to these kids. I'm enjoying Idol more this season than I have for quite some time!HitsRus;698193 wrote:The franchise hardly needs rescued. vball10setagree with the top ten, but totally disagree with the judges "saves"--they were the worst three out of the six, IMO
