iPad 2 announced today

Rumored features include front and rear-facing cameras, slimmer design, and bumped up specs. Initially there was talk of a retina display and an SD slot but a recent report I found said that those two additions were nixed at the last minute before production. I believe they usually do all of their press conferences at 1pm EST so we'll find out in 3 hours.

Probably going to be slimmer, have at least one camera, and probably an A5 processor.

Nothing really world beating about this release. More the Ipad S if the "insiders" are correct.

If it doesn't have a retina display I'm going to wait on v.3, at least, to buy new and try to buy a used v.1 on the cheap.

I don't know why they wouldn't incorporate this into the next model. I mean, with how widespread the SD card is these days, it only makes sense. Virtually every camera uses this format now.

Apple will probably not be doing an SD card slot. Not their style. But maybe I'm wrong.

Set to be unveiled at a media event on Wednesday, the second-generation iPad will apparently be a pretty boring update that isn’t worthy of all the hype. An anonymous “Apple staffer” has reportedly fed enthusiast site Cult of Mac some thoughts on Apple slates, and he or she thinks the iPad 2 is a dud. The iPad 3, on the other hand, will be the awesome update everyone is waiting for. “For the iPad 2 don’t get your hopes up too high. That’s all I’m going to say,” the Apple employee is quoted as having said. “They’ve had a number of problems along the way, and the third-generation iPad is the one to make a song and a dance about.” The chatty rep gave no hints as far as a timeline for the iPad 3 — Apple typically releases an iOS device roughly a year after its predecessor, but several rumors have suggested we may see a third-generation iPad launch this fall. In the meantime, tomorrow’s second-generation iPad is expected to feature a significantly thinner case, dual cameras, a faster processor, more RAM and support for both Verizon Wireless and AT&T’s cellular networks.

The only gripe I have with my Ipad is the display. Glare is significant, but otherwise it has more than surpassed expectations. Sadly I don't use my computer as much as I would like because the Ipad can perform nearly all computing functions I ask it too.

Love ereader support for kindle, nook, and epub as well.

I just read through some of the specs on gizmodo...pretty disappointing.

Why can't they put just 1 USB port on it?

I have an iPad on my desk that will not charge.

Any news on a price drop of the original?

They'll probably drop the price next week. Or now. Might be worth checking out the apple store online. I'd do it right now but I don't give a shit

Not really impressed. It'll be faster which is nice but nothing earth shattering. Unless you write for Engadget.com because they get off everytime Apple announces anything.

The prices have already been dropped to $399 for current gen.

Nice. I looked at the apple store online but couldn't even find the current one anywhere.

my thoughts exactly...I'm really a fan of my Ipad, but adding a USB would make it way more versatile.....

however, it is fast, and versatile, and intuitive...all factors that I don't get out of my Windows clunker.

I brought an iPad home last night just to play with it. I used it all of 5 minutes, put it away, and got my laptop out.

I just don't get it I guess. Or maybe I'm not cool enough to own an Apple product.

    This is it.

That's pretty much what I was thinking.

Seriously, though. You played around with it for 5 minutes and didn't get it but what apps were on it? I'd have a hard time writing off a gadget after 5 minutes, especially if it didn't have apps that would be of interest to me.

I thought the only cool thing about it was the new cover that they developed. Very simple but is very cool and useful. Other than that all of the rest of the stuff is just eh. Most of these improvements were things most expected when the first iPad came out. This is really more like iPad 1.5 if you ask me.
