here is the list. Magic has to be one of them left. Could Bobby knight be top 2?

Magic is too high by several spots. -
Polar Bear 73I agree Jesse Owens should be number one. Magic and Red Grange became much bigger after they left college. Owens and Archie were bigger in college. If they are judging on their entire career (not just college) then Jack Nicklaus should be top 2 or 3. Jack is arguably the greatest ever in his sport, and although they were great, not too many people would make the greatest ever argument about Grange or Magic Johnson.

Little DannyTo turn a phrase from Lee Corso, "Not so fast my friends". Sure Magic had a fantastic pro career, "Showtime Lakers" and all that... but Ervin Johnson was half of the equation to getting the nation hooked on "March Madness". Ever since Magic and the Hick from French Lick met up in the tournament, the nation has been hooked on watching the games. I attach an article discussing the same.

Polar Bear 73Magic was great, and I loved watching him play. But, he only played two years of college ball and averaged 17 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Great numbers, but not the number 1 or 2 icon in Big Ten history.

karen lotzWhy else would Owens be third? No one cares about track and field.

I Wear PantsDan Gable wasn't on this list?
Though I guess he did wrestle at Iowa State so that's probably why. Is this list only including athletes because if coaching is considered at all Gable's tenure as a coach at U of Iowa is pretty deserving. -

krambmanRed Grange will be #2 and Magic will be #1. The main reason Magic will be #1 is to get TV viewers. People remember watching him play, there's plenty of video footage of him, and you can interview him and people who competed with/against him. It will make for a better show and more people will tune in to watch.
If this list were legitimate it would be Jesse Owens #1. The list is supposed to be based solely on what they did while in college. Well, guess what? Owen's three gold medal performance in Berlin was while he was in college. -

The Gable philosophy and coaching tree continue to dominate the Big Ten. There's no reason he shouldn't be number one.
The entire sport and conference have been changed because of Gable and it's still dominating the NCAA. -
UANygthe people on the list are selected for their merits from when they were in college only. Magic should not be top 2.

thavoiceIcon doesnt necessarly mean best.
Some athletes, just because of their sport, may not get the recognition as being as big of an icon.
Did htey name the top two? -
