Anyone watch pawn stars?

I think the show is pretty interesting. That said, how stupid are these people? Tonight, an expert told the guy his Shelby Mustang frame was worth $60,000. He then sold it to the people on the show for $30,000. That makes no sense and makes the show totally fake.

Yea, on the 10pm episode, an expert told a guy his Musketoon was worth 10-15k at auction. He sold it for $6,000 to the Pawn Shop. BS!

Pawn shops aren't going to pay you retail prices for stuff (because there's no profit to be made), and people desperate for the cash will take the hit.

People who are more patient will take it to an auction house or sell it on their own, but people that hard up for cash or who have nothing in it and don't want to deal with the hassle of something like that will take crappy pawn shop prices.

Are all the deals genuine? I doubt it (eg. the Musketoon, a museum would have scooped that up for what it was appraised for), but I also doubt it is completely fake.

Show is pretty good. Chumley is my favorite person on there, his quotes and actions are hilarious.

I watch it, and what ts1227 said was spot on.

I understand that, but if you know it is worth much more I think you could wait the 2 days it would take to contact someone to buy that good of stuff. I understand some stuff, but taking a 50% hit like on the mustang is insane and imo completely bullshit. Is it that hard for a reality show to make it at least appear real?

this. Plus auctions charge fee's and I think they get a certain percent of the sale

I've just about given up on the History Channel because of shows like this. If they are going to cancel shows like Deep Sea Detectives and Cities of the Underworld and put stuff like this and Ice Road Truckers on, I'm not going to watch it. More power to you if you like the show, though.

There have been plenty of times during the show that people will walk once they dont' get the money they think they should. Sometimes people just need cash and need it in a hurry.

Not only do people get desperate for money, but if they were to try to auction their items off, after they pay for advertising and commissions they end up with a little more than they would have gotten from the shop. Might as well take the money now, rather than wait is their attitude.

Great premise, great show, great characters. Staged? Surely a bit just as any reality show is.
To sell to a pawn shop is the easiest way to get CASH quick. That is indeed why people take a hit. The risk is low (because you get the cash immediately). Personally, with internet access like it is, I would do a lot of research before I would consider selling any item of value to a pawn shop.

Any reality show has a bit of stage in it. But overall, I do enjoy watching this show.

I really like the show. Found it by accident one night and ended up watching 6 episodes in a row. I don't think too much is staged if any at all. Some of these people know what they have, but a lot don't. Some of them don't know who to contact for the stuff besides the pawn shop. An example being that Musketoon... maybe the guy didn't think about contcting a museum.

You have to remember that pawn stars is based in vegas and people have alot of gambling problems and need the cash to pay off debt and gamble more. Some of these people think it's great if they go to the pawn shop because they might get to be on the show eve if they take a beating.
