If you miss a flight what are your rights?

  • sportchampps
My g/f missed her Delta flight home tonight because her first flight was delayed due to a mechanical problem. Does she have any rights to a hotel room or what should she ask.

    They usually hook you up.

They usually hook you up on the next flight available out. If it is not till morning they usually provide a hotel and meal voucher and transport to and from hotel to airport. Happened to me a few times.

one time i had one delayed they paid for our cab and a hotel room for the night, but it was also one of the last flights of the day.

they told her she will be on a flight in the morning so she is stuck in chicago. Will they pay for a hotel and food? She has been in airports since 3 and she cant find anywhere that takes american express to buy food.

Did she ask them if they were providing hotel and food? You have to go to ticket counter and discuss with an agent or call the airlines number and discuss on the phone.

This... plus she should look at her ticket and see what the terms and conditions state. She definitely needs to speak to someone at the airline... I am sure they will provide her with a meal voucher. If all else fails she could flirt with a lonely male and get a free meal :) jk

Well they gave her a hotel room but now, they are telling her she can't have her bag tonight because it was checked and is in chicago but they keep it until your final destination.

Sometimes they give out a toothbrush ect.., but the airlines have gotten tight on everything.
Pay for bags, soft drinks and snacks(not all arlines).
    Delta is better than most.

The hotel will have things available also. They will put her in a decent hotel.

Gotta go with Visa. It's everywhere you want to be and it is in some places you don't want to be too (like stuck at the airport).

Been in this situation before... luckily Quantas hooked us up.... first class seats on the next domestic flight to the east coast out of L.A. plus a room and $75 a person to chew up on food... believe me we took care of it

FYI my dog took a shit in the E concourse at chicago's airport and I didn't clean it up. steer clear of that area.

    SportsChamps..

Maybe she's just TELLING you she missed her flight? :P

    I jest, I jest.

I missed my connection at Cincinnati on the way home from Seattle a couple of months ago - Delta gave me a free trip and a voucher for a rental car to drive home.

One time coming out of Burbank my plane caught on fire in the air and we made an emergency landing in the desert. I sat at a military base for three hours, sat beside a smelly fat guy on a bus to Vegas for four hours, waited another four hours for an extra connection through Phoenix before getting home about a day and a half late. They gave me a $200 credit voucher three months later and gave me a year to use it retroactive to the date of the incident. And you want to talk about rights?!?!?

I always take a carry-on on all my flights, even just a quick flight from Pittsburgh to Islip. I learned my lesson the hard way!

In 2001 (Christmas time), I was flying from California to Pitt. and had a flight change in Detroit. Well a thunderstorm that had been going on started to really cut loose with the lightening, so they cancelled all remaining flights for the day. They gave me another flight for the next day, but nothing else, claiming the "Act of God" clause for the reason for flight cancellelations and that it was no fault of theirs.
Well there was a big shindig (can't remember what now) going on in Detroit and every hotel was booked in the city. The closest hotel they could book for me was in Ann Arbor. LOL! Oh, and they weren't going to help pay for that either. So there I was. I ended up going 1/2's with a little old lady for the taxi fare to Ann Arbor, paid for the hotel and then the taxi back to the airport. All of this while my bags were checked and I couldn't get to them. Thankfully, I had toothbrushes and shampoo and the like supplied by the hotel along with room service. My flight left Detroit the next day at 2pm.
So needless to say, from that point on I always take a carry-on, no matter how short the flight, with a change of clothes in it. Because you just never know!

The WORST part of the story is when I got to Pittsburgh, there was a screwup at the car rental and an employee rented out my car that I had already payed for online before I left Ca. They did return my money. Also didn't get my luggage for 4 days because somehow all the luggage from my original flight ended up on another plane bound for a different destination.
Tired. No clothes. No car. Ok, well at least Pitt. airport got me a limo to take me back to my hometown and paid for 1/2 of the price.
It was the Christmas from Hell.

Center like you I always take carry on! My luggage has been lost/delayed too many times I never check luggage anymore plus it makes for quicker check in and departure from airport!!

With them charging over $20 to check one bag I never check it unless work is paying. Traveled to Europe twice for two weeks without checking a bag.

My wife and I almost never checked bags when it was just the two of us but now with a daughter (15 months) it's a whole different story.
