Whats up with Adam Sandler?

  • MANAZE
Anyone else disapointed with his last few movies? I grew up loving this dude and his movies but I just watched Funny People the other day and almost fell asleep. Has he lost it?
  • GoChiefs
He lost it a LONG time ago. Once he got away from the movies like Billy Madison & Happy Gilmore..he went downhill..the last movie of his I had any interest in was probably Click..and I didn't like that movie.. Before that..you'd have to go way back to Big Daddy to have a movie of his that I had any interest in seeing.

    Last 6 movies:
Click: I thought it was a real good movie. It wasn't the same "stupid" funny that he had in Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison, but it had a good idea that people waste their life.
Reign Over Me: GREAT movie. It wasn't a comedy, but it was a damn good movie and he did great in it.
Chuck and Larry: I thought this was hilarious and it was more of the old stupid funny.
Zohan: Eh, it wasn't very good.
Bedtime Stories: I haven't watched it yet.
Funny People: I watched it last night and I liked it.

I think he's moving away from the stupid funny and heading towards a more serious type of movie. He's growing up. He's still funny, but his movies aren't all about that now. I still think he's great.

    Click was ok.
    Chuck and Larry was funny.
    Zohan was dumb.
    Bedtime was cute.
Haven't seen Funny People or Reign Over Me.

Reign Over Me was a GREAT movie.

This. Sandler's humor is funny when he is a 30 year old, it's not the same when he is 40+. It just doesn't look right or is funny when a guy with gray hair is out there acting like Billy Madison, The Waterboy, Happy Gilmore, etc. In addition, Sandler's form of humor is great the first few times, after about the 5th movie it goes from funny to just plain annoying (see also Farrell, Will).

I've liked quite a few of his movies, including Reign Over Me & Spanglish. He is working on a project w/ Mitch Albom accoring to IMDB. It will be interesting to see what that is.

Sandler is 10x the actor Will Ferrel is!

Reign Over Me is a great movie.

I liked Funny People as well.

Click: Not necessarily the "funniest" movie. But I thought it was good...good enough that I can watch it multiple times. GRADE: A-
Reign Over Me: I didn't like it as much as most people. It was okay. He was a retarded not funny version of himself in it. GRADE: B-
Chuck and Larry: I thought it was hilarious as well. Not as good as "Click" IMO...but still pretty good. GRADE: B+
Zohan: Didn't even want to waste my time watching it. Probably his only movie (aside from Funny People...yet) I haven't seen and wont. GRADE: N/A
Bedtime Stories: No...this wasn't stupid comedy Adam Sandler. This was clever, witty comedy Adam Sandler...tailored towards children. My son loved it, as did I. Very fun to watch. GRADE: A-
Funny People: On my "queue" on Netflix. Will report in a few weeks. :)

I think we will always remember him for his Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison roles, but he is moving into a different genre or different style of acting. He is over 40 now, so the type of movies he does are different. I still enjoy his films, some are not good but most are entertaining.

I think he has lost it. This guy made it huge with roles like Happy and Billy. I think he should stick with those kinds of films. Adam Sandler trying to pull off a serious role just doesn't cut it.

3 of my favorite comedies of all time are Happy Gilmore, Billy Madison, and Waterboy (in that order), but to be honest I thought he did great in Click and Bedtime Stories.

Zohan was retarded, and I haven't seen the other ones yet.

I thought Click and Bedtime Stories were great transitions to funny, but "good story" movies along with 50 First Dates.

I disagree. I see nothing funny about a 40yr old man playing roles like Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison. Reign Over Me is his best work to date.

funny people is like 20th on my netflix que so I'll tell you how i feel in a few weeks, but i like his newer movies. you can't play billy madison forever.

my only complaint is the god damned baby talk. even when he's playing a serious role he's got mushmouth.

I know a lot of people on here didn't find Zohan funny. However, a lot of the appeal of that movie was the inside jokes targeting Jewish people (specifically Israeli Jews). I'm not Israeli (though i wish, they are hot!), but I'm around the culture enough to understand it. I agree that the movie was very silly, but I laughed because I've met so many men just like Zohan's character. Was it a bit offensive? Maybe, but I haven't met an Israeli who has upset by it, so I think it's OK.

The only movie he's made I didn't like was Zohan...and I even got a few chuckles out of it.

Sandler is one of my favorite actors ever.

Reign Over Me was a TERRIFIC movie. I'm watching Funny People tonight, so we'll see how that is..

Also, does anybody like "Spanglish"? I thought it was a pretty good movie.

Of course, Billy Madison, Waterboy, Big Daddy, etc, are all classic Sandler movies..

The first hour and a half of Funny People is great...then the last hour of the movie happens...

Have you seen Going Overboard...lol...it is awful. I believe that it was his first movie.

I may get flambayed for this, but I can't stand Adam Sandler. At all.

Go watch Reign Over Me and then ask if he has lost it. If anything he has matured as an actor imo.

I saw the trailer for his new movie coming out next summer when I was at the Friday showing of "Blind Side" his new movie looks wicked funny. I can't remember the name of it, but it is about some middle aged guys who get back together years after winning a CYO basketball championship. It looks very good. Has his usual cast of characters in it. Maybe something us middle aged guys can relate to a little bit more.

BTW, if you haven't checked out "Blind Side" yet, it is a great, great movie.

    I agree.
