Favorite type of Music?

  • BEAST 0332
What is everyone's favorite type of music? I like pretty much all music, but love hip-hop and country! My wife tells me the thing that made her interested in me besides the obvious was that "I'm a black guy who likes Country music!" lol... I'm actually half black and half white, but whatever gets the ladies!;)

I put rap in the category with hip-hop since a lot of ppl think they're the same.

I could listen to anything but country, but I consider my collection of rock, hip-hop, r&b, and alternative to be VERY impressive.

^What is it that you don't like about country?

I know just a tiny bit about all genres of music, I suppose.

just a bit. haha, seriously, I suppose of the choices, I'd pick hip-hop just because that was the genre that was most prominent in my youth, due to my parents NOT wanting me to listen to it, I probably have the most extensive hip-hop knowledge as well, though, it's tough to say, man. I dig it all.

Don't like MOST new country, but I dig a lot of the outlaw country/older country.

I put "other" because I'm a metalhead major with a classic rock minor. And a sub-minor in a few other genres. I love a lot of music. Some stuff I can't listen to with any enjoyment, but most stuff is at least cool with me.

I can listen to pretty much anything except country music but my favorite is definitely Hip-Hop and some R&B.

    Classic Rock
    90s hip hop
    Alternative Rock

Would probably be my top 3. But I listen to pretty much everything outside of Jazz and R&B. Country, metal, pop, you name it.

Did you get a chance to check out Leroy Powell?

I prefer music that doesn't suck. For the most part it includes newer country that isn't crap (i.e. Shooter Jennings, Leroy Powell, Ted Russell Kamp), classic/outlaw country (i.e. Johnny Cash, Waylon, Willie, Merle Haggard, DAC, etc) classic rock and whatever new rock I can get in to (best current band I have found is The Black Keys). I am also a huge fan of bluegrass. I've never found a bluegrass song I didn't like. Tool is also one of my favorite bands.

    hip-hop and also some r&b...

I can also attest to being a pretty big Johnny Cash fan.. Love his music.

Really though, I can listen to just about anything as long as it's not trash.

Of the choices provided Hip-Hop. However like most people on this thread I can get into just about anything. The other day a friend was over playing some 360 and we had my ipod going. there was a five song set that he swears up and down is the strangest thing he had heard. It was Frank Sinatra-That's Life, Johnny Cash-Ring of Fire, Jay-Z-22 Two's, Rolling Stones-Gimmie Shelter and Three 6 Mafia-Stay High. I don't think its that weird but thats me. The only types of music I can't get into are Jazz and most country.

"Emo" but, that wasnt an option lol

    Love Frank Sinatra too..

I'm pretty eclectic in my musical tastes. I grew up on late 50's and 60's Rock n' Roll, and I still like the "Oldies" Stations. As I've moved through life, I've become more and more a country fan. Guys like Cash and Jennings, and Strait, and Travis, and others of the older generation of country (don't leave Willy out) are among my favorites and gals like Patsy Cline, Tammy Wynette, Reba, Faith Hill, Lorrie Morgan and singers of that type (and please let us not forget Dolly!). I've also always loved Show Music. My wife and I saw Phantom about 2 years ago and the musical score knocked me out. It was fantastic. Again, the older shows are my favorites...stuff like South Pacific, Oklahoma, Carousel, The Sound of Music, you get the idea. I suppose the music that I don't really feel comfortable with is... most rap, although I spent a Summer painting as a side job and my partner was a young man from the inner city who taught me a lot about being willing to listen before condemning anything off hand, and I found out that there are rap artists out there who have some very important things to say and are very clever in the way they put their musical thoughts together. In short, I discovered that not all rap is what many of us assume, without looking closer.

I'm mostly 60s and 70s but with todays rock I find myself listening to more country.
    But thats don't often
Just flip in a good old classic rock

Classic rock is probably my favorite but I love almost all music. Not a huge fan of country but I do love older stuff.

I like just about every genre but if I had to pick one.....Hip-Hop would be my favorite.

You're alienating some posters by not putting "metal" as a separate category on there. And, if you consider metal to fall under the umbrella of "rock", then, that would vex me, which I'm sure you don't care. But, some folks, like me, listen to metal ONLY. And, I'm not talking about the panty-anty little winey ass metal that passes for metal on radio(Disturbed, Creed and their panzy likes). I mean real metal...like Meshuggah, SYL, Slayer, and all the old thrash. Eh, just sayin. So, yeah, I clicked "other". Sorry for the rant.

I like all kinds, but I prefer music that doesn't suck as well. New country and pop is very terrible... not a fan of R&B. I like the blues just not the rythmn and blues. I love old country/outlaw country and bluegrass. I also like california country music (not sure if that is what you call it) like Dwitght Yokum. Deftones and Tool are my favorite bands. I also like some post hardcore bands. Buckethead is my favorite solo rock act. Refused is my favorite punk band.

I voted rock, but I will listen to just about anything. Listening to classical right now.

Don't care for screamo goth stuff, or "I want to kill myself or slit my wrists" stuff.
