Favorite Hair Metal Band

actually in their prime Motley Crue was the best at what they did. great songs, kickass drummer in tommy lee, mick mars is one of the best guitar players ever (even though he looks like death warmed over), nikki sixx was fine, and vince neil actually had a voice back then.

What about Rachel Bolan? Worthy bass player?

    Zero,
I disagree. I think Vince Neil had an awful voice. Listening to him sing "Home Sweet Home" is almost painful to me. I don't think he could carry a tune in a bucket, but that's just me.

Gnr wasnt even on the mainstream map until they broke down and released the ballad "sweet child o' mine" which is btw one of the greatest songs of all time. when mtv premiered the video for that song they took off. Gnr was good and offered a slightly edgier sound compared to the rest, but still a hair band.

Home sweet home, great song. one of the best power ballads. right up there with "i remember you" from skid row and slightly behind "every rose has its thorn".

The crue had the look and attitude for the time. other than sebastian bach nobody really had the pipes.

this is whats great about music. there is so much variety whether its speed metal or classical.

Most people tend to forget the Crue and GNR did their best stuff when they were still glamming it up...

very true. Gnr eventually went for the money and released the album the album "lies" which was lets face it not that good. i dont blame them, they were making the most of their ten minutes of fame. i would have done the same thing.

GNR was/is a hard rock/metal band but not a hair metal band. Their music differed from the hair metal bands of the mid 80s. They were, as was the case when they first started out and were looking for shows, "too metal for the punk clubs and too punk for the metal clubs." I don't think we'll ever see another band like them again.

Lies was a pretty good album it just didn't have many songs and was acoustic so it caught people off guard. The unique thing about GNR is all of their albums are a little different which some people might not like, but I think is great for musical diversity. Patience and Used to Love Her were great songs from that album.
