tcarrier32i love me some metal.

shadows fall
thats what i can remember off the top of my head.
mastodons last two albums to me, even though they arent as much "heavy metal" as they are progressive, are two of my favorite albums ever. -
darbypitcher22I guess my question from that list is how could bands like WASP, Dokken, and Skid Row not be in the top 50?
-
tcarrier32there are alot of bands that didnt make the top fifty in that list that deserved to. and none of them were WASP, Dokken, or Skid Row. that pop/glam nonsense is downright laughable.
-
darbypitcher22WASP was not pop/glam metal, and neither was Dokken really either
-
TinkertrainYour right Dokken really wasnt pop/glam....... their genre would be more of "Shit Metal" along with such powerhouses of shit as Poison, Ratt, Winger, Firehouse and the ever aweful Europe.
The glam metal phase is something every true metalhead just shake's his head in disgust at. -
enigmaaxI went to an Iron Maiden concert in New Jersey the summer before last. Wasn't quite the same as when I was growing up, was a little disappointed but that may be because I quit listening once I heard Seventh Son.
I was actually looking for the Keeper of the Seven Keys Part II cd today. I've got all of the songs somewhere, but it is my absolute favorite metal album. Iron Maiden and Number of the Beast are up there for me and I've hit another phase where I listen to those quite a bit.
Haven't really picked up on any new metal bands since the late 80s. -
Heretic
IMO, WASP probably should have been for notoriety purposes alone. Skid Row had too short a shelf life (basically two popular albums and then plummeting off the face of the planet) to be ranked particularly high on any list. Dokken was more of a second-tier hair band that never gained the popularity of the main names in that genre. And when you consider that hair metal tends to be downgraded on this list, it's no surprise second-tier hair bands are placed lower than, say, second-tier thrash bands (ie: Overkill, Testament, Metal Church). Something I'd basically agree with from my perspective. Back in the day, I listened to stuff like Metallica and Iron Maiden....and stuff like Ratt and Dokken. Now, I still listen to the Metallica and Iron Maiden, but rare is the day where I even remotely consider thinking about listening to any of the hair stuff. That sub-genre just didn't have the staying power to make that big of an impact in the world of metal as a whole.darbypitcher22 wrote: I guess my question from that list is how could bands like WASP, Dokken, and Skid Row not be in the top 50? -
TinkertrainAnyone have any thoughts on the recently announced "American Carnage" tour featuring Slayer, Megadeth and Testament?
$20 say's that they can't make it the whole tour without Kerry King kicking the crap out of megadave. -
DESCENTdmci think itll be expensive and have a bad smell
-
TinkertrainPrice isnt bad, the bands are offering $10 dollar seat's and the floor seats for the Detroit show are going for about 45.
-
namod65Kudos and a high five to anyone who has even heard of what Nevermore used to be back in the 80s. Sanctuary only had two albums but I love their stuff. Dane's voice is amazing, but an acquired taste for most. I have never met anyone else who has even heard of these guys let alone a fan like me.
-
TinkertrainWarrell Dane's voice is deffinetly an acquired taste but I like it.
-
cbus4lifeI enjoy Mastadon.
-
Heretic
I actually own of of Sanctuary's albums. Been forever since I heard it. So long I can't remember what it's called. Something about a dark mirror or glass or something like that. It did take a while to get into Dane's voice, but it was a very good album.namod65 wrote: Kudos and a high five to anyone who has even heard of what Nevermore used to be back in the 80s. Static-X (industrial metal)
Bullet for My Valentine
Lamb of God

All That Remains
August Burns Red
Killswitch Engage
if I had to listen to hardcore, I would say that Hatebreed is ok. -
GeneralsIcer89Any other old-school Therion fans?
-
Heretic
I own Lepaca Kliffoth. Seeing your post is making me listen to it right now. Very good and diverse disc. Their Celtic Frost cover is amazing!GeneralsIcer89 wrote: Any other old-school Therion fans? -
GeneralsIcer89Great stuff, Heretic! Wings of the Hydra and Riders of Theli are two of my favorites from Therion.
-
Heretic
Yeah...they changed a lot over the years. A lot of the melodic Euro-death groups did over the years. Them, Samael, Sentenced, Tiamat, etc. But that old Therion was great stuff. Up to Beauty in Black right now. Just an operatic, melodic song put into a death album to show their versatility. I love groups who do things like that!GeneralsIcer89 wrote: Great stuff, Heretic! GeneralsIcer89I liked a lot of their stuff as they evolved, too, but not as much when the lineup of the band changed (I think it was around the time they put out Crowning of Atlantis, the live album). A lot of great stuff on Deggial and Vovin, though. Their older albums are still my favorites, however.

Tinkertrainfreehuddle metalhead's I have some sad new's to report.
Ronnie James Dio has been diagnosed with stomach cancer. It appear's that they found it early and has a good shot at beating it. Keep Dio in your prayer's to the metal god's.

visionquestFinally, I thread I can sink my teeth into! I like a lot of the things listed here...but, I listen to all genres of metal. Old thrash, black, death, crossover, some metalcore, some deathcore. I'll just list some of my fav ALL TIME metal albums seeing as how that's what the thread asks for.
1. Strapping Young Lad-"city"...simply the pinnacle, and everything that is good about metal. The last time I was truly knocked on my ass by an album, unless you count number 2.
2. Meshuggah-"chaosphere"
3. Slayer-"reign in blood".....Heretic brother...overrated? Are you nuts? So visceral and vicious. Thrash songwriting at it's top. The non-sensical solos and proto-Satanism? It's got it all. Listen again brother...listen again and again and again.
4. Megadeth-"rust in peace"
5. Dillinger Escape Plan-"calculating infinity"...controlled chaos in music started here, and really, ends here as well.
6. Metallica-"kill 'em all"...still awesome, and just a notch ahead of "master of puppets" for best Metallica offering.
7. Testament-"the gathering"
8. Obituary-"cause of death"
9. Morbid Angel-"domination"
10. Trouble-"trouble"
11. Blut Aus Nord-"the work which transforms god"
12. At The Gates-"slaughter of the soul"
13. Anthrax-"among the living"
14. Helmet-"meantime"
15. Faith No More-"king for a day, fool for a lifetime".....some will say "angel dust" is better. Bullocks to that.
16. Death-"human"
17. Strapping Young Lad-"alien"
18. Will Haven-"el diablo"
19. White Zombie-"astro creep 2000"
20. Pantera-"vulgar display of power"
21. Forbidden-"twisted into form"
22. Overkill-"the years of decay"
23. Coalesce-"functioning on impatience"
24. Emperor-"ix equilibrium"
25. Dark Tranquillity-"damage done"
26. Cave In-"until your heart stops"
27. Xasthur-"burn at the hospital"
28. Fear Factory-"soul of a new machine"
29. Cathedral-"soul sacrifice"
30. Voivod-"nothingface"
.....screw it, that's enough...and you're done reading anyway. I could go on forever. Heck, I don't even think those are in any kind of order. I love metal. It's established. -
DESCENTdmcman i knew we had metalheads that listened to real/good metal but i never thought id see Coalesce or Cave In mentioned on freehuddle/huddle.
nice choices
