EA Sports adds $10 fee to used games for online play

At least it comes w/ the new copies of games.

    Not really unexpected.

The question is where does that $10 go?

I am fine with paying $10 as long as it boosts the online experience. Sounds familiar.

This is bad for rentals becuase you cant play online if you rent the game unless you pay the 10 buck fee. This fee is not about boosting the online experience. It is a way for EA to hurt people who resale their games. Companies like EA are mad that people buy used copies instead of brand new copies. If you enjoy playing a game and saleing it back or buying a used game instead of new you can kiss it goodbye in a couple more years. Battlefield pretty much did the same thing by making you have to pay for the VIP code.

The Kotaku article says there is a 7 day "trial" per gamertag. So, basically you can rent it and play online once.

These types of fees work for MMORPG's, but don't really like them in these cases.

if i remember correctly, the last tiger woods game would autmatically set up challenges and shit if your machine is online. If I don't pay (and rest assured, I won't) that just means that thing won't work, but the game will still function properly?

this is fucking retarded. most ps3 games are clearly overpriced, with any game made by EA Sports leading the way with the overpricing. If they dont want people buying used games, then they need to lower the price instead of charging more.

its not like the completely rebuild each game, they update rosters and add new features.

EA Blows anyway, i want NFL 2k5 back.

NFL 2k5 was boss. The first person view was uniquely awesome, although really difficult to play.

When I was in NJ last winter waiting to fly out to Israel, I ventured to the local mall where I found a copy of NFL 2k5 for $.99....needless to say I couldn't pass it up, and I've been playing it since. I'm in my 5th year with the Br(Cl)owns.

I was going to write a complaint about this sooner, but when I got home I was alerted by my realtor that since I rent that I would no longer have functional cable or phone jacks.

I asked why I hadn't heard about this on the radio, but remembered that it was because I puchased my car used...and therefore the radio had been removed.

From there, the only place I could think of was the library. But when I arrived there was a note on the door. Apparently the books they lent out no longer came with the endings, and since nobody wants to read an unfinished book they lost their funding.

My final desperate attempt was to drive directly to Kotaku and plug my PC into their servers. Unfortunately after I broke in, I discovered that my PC had already been linked to my home's old IP address...and would only allow me to access the internet if I were connected directly to my original ports.

So here I am, sitting in my new home, with my new PC, finally able to post my complaint. And all it cost me was $180k and 12 months in prison for the break-in.

But hey, at least GameStop gets screwed out of a few sales, right?

    Fuckers.

WHy not just sell the games over xbox for 40 bucks where you just download it. This way you cut out the money walmart and such makes and then there is no used games for those poeple to sell. If people want to pay 60 bucks to have a hard copy then let them sell them.
  • I Wear Pants
EA already makes full price when the game is sold new.

They act like they lose money when people buy a used game. They don't.

You don't see GM or Ford saying that car will only work if you use the code that comes with it new and that if you buy a used car you have to pay $1000 for a new code. Shit would be ridiculous.

    Nerds.

I only buy new games so it doesn't affect me.

I mean, don't get me wrong. Gamestop is one of my most hated companies but this is the wrong way to go about this.
