That's not exactly how I remember it. There is no date set.

You need to find a balance between staying out of things that you don't have a say in and acting interested enough when you should. Help make some decisions so that you are involved but don't be too involved. Speak when spoken to. Most importantly, if there is something you feel very strongly for or against, speak up. Also, Congrats.

    Congrats man!

SS is right...you have to give your input on some things...but you also have to let the little lady make most of the decisions. You have to realize that she's been dreaming of this her whole life and probably knows exactly what she wants and how she wants things to look.

But when she suggests getting married in the fall on a Saturday...you need to speak up and squash that quick!

    Best of luck man.

    Yes.

Go to Vegas. If she'd like, I can provide references from ten different couples whose first words after coming back from their honeymoon were "I wish we'd just eloped instead".

I've never met a couple who's eloped by choice and later regretted it. Maybe regretted the marriage itself, but not having forgone flushing thousands of dollars down the drain for one day that they'll be too stressed and/or drunk to remember.

I can relate to this. I probably told my wife a dozen times in the year leading up to the wedding that we should have just gone to Vegas. The planning stage is a huge headache. I still can't believe how much pictures and flowers cost. It's criminal.

    congrats Bone...it's a good,no,GREAT thing--marriage is awesome ;)

1st off congrats! Have a happy and healthy married life.

Second off, Im on the final lap of the wedding/reception rush. My young lady and I are getting married on January 11th in Las Vegas (Why not get the honeymoon and wedding in on the same trip?). Then we are coming home for a reception on the 16th....

All I can say is start early...REALLY early. It will save you a million headaches. Also, if she REALLY wants something, and you know it is something that just isnt going to work out, dont get angry, and dont for the love of GOD say its a dumb idea...that will land you on the couch for a few nights. Try to suggest something that doesnt suck quite as much...and hope she goes for it. (This is how I avoided having pink and purple as the wedding colors....I dodged a HUGE bullet right there)

My last bit of advice...dont let the stress get to you. Something somewhere is GOING TO GO WRONG....more than likely more than one thing will go wrong. Just go with the flow, be ready to change on the fly...and enjoy the process...because hopefully we will only have to go through it once.

I got married just over a year ago.

Keep the wedding small, IMO. Don't overspend on the food/drinks (we didn't have drinks, we were footing the bill, and very few of the 100 people invited were drinkers).

Ignore your parents and her parents...They just want to have power and it's annoying, but you basically just have to ignore them...If they are paying for the wedding, then they can have an input, but they also cant 'buy' the power to do whatever they want on your wedding day.

Enjoy certain activites like Golf, Beer with your buddies, etc. while you can. Pretty soon they'll all be gone.

I doubt that. We have been living together for two years and I've done all those things still..I don't think that making it official will change anything.

Some great advice and it is appreciated. My uncle eloped in Vegas and then threw a huge bash when they got home...they loved it, but I don't know if thats what she wants to do. We lived in Vegas for a year and have friends there..I would like it to do that and whoever can come is welcome and then throw some sort of reception later.

The thought of spending thousands of dollars on flowers is truly appalling. Photos I can live with since they will last forever
