American Idol Top 5 elimination

  • HitsRus
Casey might have bought the farm last nite with an off key rendition of 'Blue Skies'.

Bike Mike and Lee brought down the house.
    Chyrstal and Aaron were so-so.
  • THE4RINGZ
I didn't get to see last night's show.

I thought Aaron did a great job. I also liked Crystal. Mike was incredible. Casey, not so much. I truly didn't think Lee was all that great, but he was better than Casey. I suspect Casey may have ridden "hot" as long as he's going to. Otherwise, it's going to be somewhat like a "Daughtry" elimination where someone went well sooner than they should have.

Yeah, Casey was out of his element last night with Sinatra. He's probably gone - but Fantasia won a few years ago, so you never know.

    1. Lee
    2. Big Mike
    3. Crystal
    4. Aaron
    5. Casey

Could easily flip flop 4 and 5 for me. The thing about Aaron is that he is so irrelevent. Last night he went first, and by the 3rd contestant I had already forgotten he was on the show.

I'm probably biased since Crystal is our home town girl, but I think she did much better than what the judges gave her credit for.

I thought Casey was quite good. Maybe I just like his style.

I will say, however, he got about the biggest reaction from the audience and I was shocked when the judges panned him. I'm not sure if Connick Jr. agreed or not, because he kind of went out of his way to say Casey nailed it 2 hours earlier (I think that was a subtle way of saying the judges were all on crack).

I usually agree with Simon. I thought their evaluation of Casey was just way off-target. The audience seemed to here the same performance I did. Even Kara, who has been SOOOO reluctant to criticize Casey all year and even then just gushes over. Kind of suspicious. I say something is up.

Crystal I think has opened the door the last two weeks for someone else, probalby Lee, to win.

I also liked Lee's performance. I don't understand the hype for Big Mike at all. I don't think his voice is that great and I feel like I'm watching a bad imitation of a giant Marvin Gaye every week.

Kid Dork just needs to go this week.

Casy was awful...no doubt. Before the judges started in i txtd a friend and said...wow...he is horrid.

Lee was good.....the rest were OK. Didnt like mike as much as the others.

I like Sinatra quite a bit so it was hard to hear them sung different ways from the original. Many a times on Idol they change up a great song and it is awesome...but to me...Sinatra is Sinatra...and any alteration to his songs just dont work.

    in my book at least.

this...IMO Lee just moved ahead of Crystal overall--she better start really nailing her songs down the stretch,'cause the momentum has shifted his way

General question, and no offense intended: I generally have lukewarm interest in American Idol, but there are always one or two contestants that compel me enough to tune in. This season, in my personal opinion, has been a complete bore, and I haven't even considered watching this in months. Seems like there are fans on here, so I ask, am I missing anything? What keeps you coming back?

BAB: I too am extremely disappointed in this years talent. I've told my girlfriend since the Top 24 that this is the worst 24 they have ever had. Outside of maybe Crystal and Lee, the others wouldn't make it past the top 12 in any other season. I've been watching about every other week anymore because I DVR it but by the time I get to watch it, I already know who is gone. This talent is EXTREMELY boring. No one has the show presence and makes you want to tune in. This show will be dead after next season. No Simon + No Talent = Major Failure. They won't have major companies wanting to advertise in their 2 hours shows if it is going to be this boring next year.

We are seeing the slow painful death of American Idol.

Cowell is getting out at the right time, with the talent seeming to drop off. However, I do think that Crystal is as good as any of the previous contestants.

Couldn't you say that contestants on current American Idol shows wouldn't make it in years past since, they probably, haven't. I'm assuming many have tried out for seasons past and didn't make it. It is a watered down talent show every year.

That being said, I think the best thing for an artist is to finish in the top 3 or 4. I've heard getting locked into the American Idol winner contract isn't that great. Most likely, if they are good, they will get a contract that they can negotiate a bit more if they finish in second or third IMO.

I can't believe this show is STILL going on! Seems like it started in Sept. of '09. Anyway, the big thing I think a lot of watchers of the show fail to realize when discussing why the show is so boring and things of that ilk, is how they actually pick the so-called "talent" on the show. They'd like you to think that the Bowersox girl for instance is so edgy and new and refreshing. However, she fits a pre-conceived demographic that they're shooting for, just as every other contestant fits into one.
If, they could somehow become more open-minded about who they choose to pick and foster on the show, then, perhaps they could salvage the show. But, there's too much money invested in these karoake singers to take chances like that.

I'll tell you this...I used to watch the show very sparingly...but, still watch the early reject shows. To this day, and I'm not going to outline my entire reasoning, but I truly believe that this show is so fixed it's not even funny. So, resign to that fact...that it is fixed.

I think everyone is going home except Big Mike tonight.

Crystal need to stop sending messages via her songs and get back to picking good music for her to sing.
Hey! Crystal win this contest and the loser boy friend will be history ...... you will not need him...

I agree with most of this. Crystal/Lee are by FAR the best two this year. They aren't as marketable as people in past seasons due to various reasons - Crystal has the hippy thing and Lee still has some stage anxiety, but in previous years there have been worse contestants than Casey, Big Mike, etc. A few years ago someone beat-boxed his way to the final 2. I think this year was better than that year. Don't get me started on Sanjaya.

Even some of the artists that made it in previous years weren't that great on the show. Kellie Pickler in particular was absolutely terrible on AI (she missed more notes than she hit), but managed to make a decent country act. Looking back at even the best years, outside of the top 5 or 6 there isn't much marketable talent, this year was no different.

casey & aaron will be the next two to go.

Big fan of Lee. Can't believe nobody has made the Adam Duritz (Counting Crows) reference to him yet.

    ^^^This.

This season probably has much talent as years past...but it may look weaker because a couple of people are really strong.

I like watching the show to watch the contestants develop.
Great article in Time magazine's 100 Most Influential People issue on Simon Cowell. If I can find a link and have time, I'll post it later.

I only started watching it when that sparks chick won it....and I dont see that much of a letdown. I think the talent is there.....soem of them may not have stage presence or confidence swagger but I think its a good season. The lack of babes has hurt it tho..alway sbetter when there is a few hot chicks who can sing....
  • gut
I think the talent is on par with most prior years. What I think is lacking is the stage presence and performance aspect.

Sure, label that as part of "talent"....The point I'm making is that stuff is fixable, actually being able to sing and make the song your own isn't.

I think you can characterize most of the performances as "good, but boring". I might not pay to SEE some of these guys, but I might buy their album to listen to.

I think Lee and Crystal are going to do really well and probably end-up top-5 in all-time Idol sales behind only Clarkson, Underwood and possibly Daughtry. I also think Casey is going to do surprisingly well. Goth girl might have a good song or two.

Talent is not watered down, either. They pick literally 1 out of 2500 just to go to Hollywood, and narrow that down to 24. Probably hundreds of people just like these cut who may or may not have been better.

Possibly the WORST episode of American Idol I've ever watched. I'm done when Cowell's gone. AI has jumped the shark.

That was my top 5 performances from last night. Overall I think:

    1. Crystal
    2. Lee
    3. Casey
    4. Big Mike
    5. Aaron

I don't understand the Big Mike popularity either. I don't think he's that good. The reason he did well last night was that the music style suited him.
