Don't run onto the field in Philly

  • bartsimpson
Geez, a little bit overzealous on the part of the police officer don't you think?

A bit. Pretty nice shot on the run though.

How was it harsh, what was he supposed to do? Let the guy keep running around the field all night? The guy didn't look like he was checking out an exit anytime soon, would it have been better for 10 cops to have gang-tackled him?
  • TBone14
I'm not saying it was too harsh. He got tased and was down for 20 seconds then walked off the field on his own. I think tasers are fine but I think they should try to stop the guy without shooting probes out there right away. Watch the video again, he doesn't even try to tackle him, he goes right for the taser.

    i liked the tasing.

baseball is long and boring enough without jackasses doing this shit.

...I'm going to take the cops side in this one.
    1. You have no business running on the field. What, the dumb ass needed his 15 mins of fame, go post poping a zit on You Tube.
    2. The cops had no idea if he had a weapon and was going to harm a player, coach, so by tazing him, no one else was injured.

...bottom line is, stay in your freaking seat and then the cops won't have to put you to sleep!

Is someone more likely to get hurt with a gang of people tackling him or with a taser gun?

Hell, cops are tazering themselves now.

I watched the video, the kid is running around and had no apparent intention of giving himself up or running towards an exit. It was a lose-lose situation for the security people.

If they tackle him, they'd be accused of physical contact (on a 17 year old "kid"!).

If they tase him, you have weenies like the yahoo blogger calling it too harsh (what an idiotic column by the way on yahoo's front page).

If God forbid, the kid turns out to be dangerous and something happens, the outrage would be unspeakable.

The moron kid is the one that put himself in that situation and caused the decision to be made. The outrage should be towards him.

So, which was more dangerous to the fools running on the field. Getting tased or gang-tackled??

Every time I hear that obnoxious Philly fanbase run their mouths, I will watch this video over and over again and laugh and laugh and laugh ...

Yep, because that's what always happens in cases like this....I can't remember how many times I've seen guys run onto the field at sporting events with weapons and planning on attacking a player.......

    .....oh wait....yes I can....ZERO!!!!

You don't remember Monica Seles? How old are you?

How about the idiots who beat up the White Sox coach? One of them lost their knife before reaching their destination and had to settle for beating up an older man two against one. Taser my ass, use a razor and cut their heads off.

As I recall it was a father-son bonding event.

just saw on espn that the kid who ran on the field last night called his father first to ask for permission and the dad said no.

I can't believe that there is even a debate about this. If you are moronic enough to run onto any field of play, you have just forfeited any rights you might have had and you are fair game and you yourself are responsible for whatever happens to you. Period, the end!

    This. +1

Just because you paid for a ticket doesn't mean you get to do whatever you want inside the stadium

If you need to call your dad before doing something and he says its not a good idea and you still do it, your ass needs the taser.

I'm 100% on the cops side. Kid was a dumbass. I'm sure there will be a lawsuit.
  • dwccrew
Hahahaha. What an idiot. Father said no, father really does know best.

How is there a debate about this?

If I'm walking home from the bar, and a cop tells me to stop, and I take off running...there's a chance I'm getting tasered. And nobody would be upset at all about that.

But this kid runs onto the field (which is trespassing and against the law), is told to stop, and gets tasered when he keeps running and people get upset about that?!

    Give me a fucking break.
