This fucking guy stole my line.LJ wrote:se-alum wrote: First of all, I thoroughly enjoy this site. However, I can see where the relaxed rules may be keeping posters away. I've never seen a reason why someone should be dropping f-bombs in a post. It should be pretty easy to get your point across without having to do it. I would never be offended by anyone on a message board, but that's not saying that alot of people wouldn't be. Not to mention that almost every civil debate turns into a name calling argument between two posters.
That's a tongue twister.Glory Days wrote: i know, i am like the minor league in Major League III: Back to the Minors.

Swamp FoxI'm definitely in se-alum's corner on this but it has dissolved into a futile battle. I used to stop kids in the hallway from using language that I thought was always inappropriate no matter where it was used, but it's like trying to stop a tidal wave. They look at you and keep right on using it. I'll be out of the halls for the most part in another month and the language is one of the reasons I'm getting out. People just assume it's ok and what's the big fuss? The message has clearly reached every kid from about 7 or 8 up. I even occasionally see stuff on homework papers that would have caused ww 3 a few years ago but now, nary a ripple of concern. I just turn away and pretend I didn't hear it now. I do believe that just because everybody does it, doesn't make it right and doesn't make it appropriate. It just means that society has gotten a lot more accepting of things that in many people's view, are simply not acceptable.

Swamp FoxI don't care what people do or say. That's up to them. I do think however, that a school setting is not the place for words to be shouted the full length of the hallways without any regard to common decency and the co-educational nature of most schools. I also think that the reason we can't get some of our favorite old regulars from jj to come over and post occasionally on this site is because there are still folks who simply don't care for those kinds of words as a regular way of speaking. I know we don't care about these prudes and we want them to stay away but in spite of their old fashioned and archaic speech tendencies, there are some very good folks who I used to enjoy posting with in the "old days" and would love them to make at least an occasional visit, but it would seem unlikely given the general responses in this thread.

Well this isn't a school hallway, so what the hell does that matter?Swamp Fox wrote: I don't care what people do or say. That's up to them.
