What is with twilight?

  Tinseltown in Canton soldout 5 shows that first night 12:01, 12:02, 12:03, 12:04, & 12:05. They are also showing it 17 times a day since. My niece and nephews went.

  Went to the movie with the wife and her family on Saturday....It was quite an experience.
  
  I Netflix'd the first Twilight for her when it came out on Blu Ray, so I never experienced a Twilight in theatres before.
  
  We got there 30 minutes early (with movietickets.com tickets) and had to wait in a line that had probably 30-40 people in it lined up outside the theater room it would be playing on...90% of the line 13-17 year old girls.
  
  Apparently I look just like the main vampire in the story "Edward", and as I walked out of the movie after it was over and as I went to the concession stands before the movie began I had to walk by lines of people waiting for another showing and hear little 14 year old girls giggle and point and tell each other that I looked like "Edward". Awkward....I held going to the bathroom to avoid this again...
  
  Each time one of the main guys would appear every girl in the audience would scream, they'd take their shirt off and the girls would scream again, and then the girls would take pics of the screen with their cell phone?!?!? WTF!!
  
  Anyways....More tolerable than the first movie, a funny experience with all of the screaming going on...Say what you want about the movie, but they are raking in the cash, so good for them. If I thought of this crap I would be milking it dry too...

  I do plan on seeing this, but not til the teenie bopper drama dies down.. I went to the River Valley Mall in Lancaster to see the blindside yesterday..and there was a couple lines for the New Moon as well. Those theatres in there suck as it is, and the Blind Side showing I was in was packed! There is no way I could sit those theatres with twice the people...esp teenage girl!

  Kristen Stewart is actually a hell of an actor, been in other quality movies and done a wonderful job. And she's not bad looking, either (she is 18, right? )
  
  P.S. Stephanie Meyer is a genius for writing these books, the perfect formula for a great young adult novel. Romance, vampires, a "knight in shining armor," though conflicted as well. Lots of teen angst. I'm not shocked at all that the book has resonated with the tween/teen set, especially girls.
  
  And, it gets kids reading and excited, i'm all for that.
  
  I'm not a fan by any means, but i don't understand whatsoever all the hate.

  Not necessarily "good lit," and not as good as Harry Potter, as far as young adult works go.
  
  But, it will be looked at as something signficant, if for no other reason than how popular they were.

  The only part that is a little weird is that my wife and her friend that is going with us are making shirts that say TEAM EDWARD...LoL I told her that I wanted a team Jacob shirt and she just about killed me....LoL (no gay inuendo intended).
  
  I can't wait for Sat. though as everyone is saying that this movie is supposed to blow the first one out of the water.

  I have not read them, and will not read them...But I'm not going to bash something I haven't read, and something that has sold a gazillion copies is clearly doing something right....

  lol, I don't think it was meant to be Shakespeare, it's directed at teenagers. Might not be the best written books, but for the most part it is a good story.

  if her goal was to sell copies, BRAVO. if her goal was to be an eloquent, entertaining writer she failed miserably.
  
  which is why i can not see the appeal of this beyond the age of 18.

  Why bash the books when I can guarantee you've not read all of the books?
  
  It's just as much or more of an "in-crowd" thing to bash Twilight and say any guy who reads it is ghey as it is for people to enjoy Twilight books...No?

  From what bit I've read, I don't find Stephenie Meyer to be a good writer at all. J.K. Rowling, I think, latched on to a trend, but was able to bring in a wider demographic, due to her writing skill (Though, I'm not a fan of Harry Potter, either...I did read two of the books.), I can't knock Meyer, because she's done well for herself, and good on her, but I feel like she took a somewhat trendy thing, glittered it up for the teenage girls, and we have takeoff.
  
  I would love to see her take something else more challenging on as a writer, whenever she ends the Twilight series, personally....or, has it ended? not sure.

  no, i have only read the first book, made it to chapter ten and was bored out of my mind.
  
  i have no reason to assume the other books are different.
  
  like i said, it is terribly written and the story is also painfully depressing (unless you are a 13 year old female)

  Saw the movie...and for the 2nd book being my least favorite...the movie was GREAT! IMO it followed the book better than any movie (based on a book) that I have ever seen!
  
  As for the bashing...I never said that the books were the best written or whatever...they were just EXTREMELY entertaining in MY opinion...and a lot of adults I know too.
  
  As for only teenie bopper girls liking the movie...tell that to the 200 or so adults that were in the theatre with me on Sat. night. I know that most of the younger girls went to see it on Friday...but our theatre was packed with ADULTS...both MALE and FEMALE...surprisingly very few kids in the theatre.

  I never read the books, but have seen both movies.
  
  I think the story is very entertaining and has good ideas. The writing (for the movies) is terrible, cheesy, and trite. The acting is bad and awkward. The music is corny. Edward walking towards Bella in the first scene with him in the new movie with the slow music and his open shirt in the wind was the corniest scene I have ever seen. I laughed out loud for a good minute. The love scenes are awkward and they zoom in on faces for too long and sometimes for no reason. It is a simple love story with bad, well, pretty much everything in the movies is bad.
  
  
  
  
  That said, I COULDNT STOP WATCHING EITHER ONE! I dont know how to explain it, because as I said before I dont think any of it is well done (again, based solely on the movies) but I though they were both great movies. I will probably watch the first again right before I see the second again. Without reading the books, I kind of forgot what had happened in the first movie.
