Lane Ending -- Flashing Arrow Ahead --- What do you do?

  • McFly1955
The turn signal thread got me thinking about my biggest driving pet peeve.

Usually in a construction zone, everyone has seen the big flashing signs letting you know that the lane is ending.

In these situations, there are a few different types of drivers --- which one are you?

    ________________________________________________________________________________________________

    a. I drive as usual, if someone is able to squeeze in front of me, good for them, I'm not going to risk an accident over this.

    b. I drive extra slow, and let a bunch of D-bags squeeze in at the last minute.

    c. I put on my war paint and keep bumper to bumper with the car in front of me....Absolutely no one will get directly in front of me, and if people get in front of the line, I will scream and cuss and throw my hands in the air.

    d. As a continuation to "c", I also pull over into the lane that is ending to ensure that nobody will get around.

    e. I'm a D-bag, I see the sign ahead and proceed to go 60 miles per hour towards the sign, and wait for person "a" or "b" to let me in.

    f. I drive up a ways and pretend that I don't really see the sign, then I cut over, but not at the last sec, still 5-10 cars behind the sign.

    ____________________________________________________________________________________________________

I'm "c" and have done a little bit of "d" a few years back (it was the same place every day, there were no other possible routes the cars could be taking, other then cutting to the front....city construction zone)

What are you? Feel free to add your own.

    I'm C 100%

I'm actually "a". There are too many variables on the highway to take chances with a car/truck that weighs a ton. I could get killed, or worse, I could kill somebody. You can read stories of people going 5 mph and getting killed in cars, let alone 60.

    C for sure.

I get over way efore the flasshing light. When the signs say merge a certain lane becuase it is closed I do so....if everyone woudl do that in the few miles before the actual flashers then the traffic wouldnt get jammed up as much....

I'm a C with a sometimes half of a D. I'll sometimes drive halfway in the closing lane with the lane line down the center of my car. Some cars will go around, but it definitely keeps the trucks from getting past.

    G. Speed up and pass everyone.
  • ts1227
a (with the exception of trucks, I get in front of those damn things)

What situations are worth risking an accident for?

    ...that says plenty.

    thx

...D, sorry if you see the arrow move in otherwise you'll wait behind me and everyone else that moved to the open lane.
  • j_crazy
if j_baby is in the car, I'm an A driver

    if she's not, I'm a C & D blend.
  • cbus4life
    Sorta a d, but mostly a c.
  • Glory Days
i will normally allow 1 car into the lane, then become a C.

A - I'd rather avoid any unnecessary complications
  • Belly35
    D. I cut off those that attemped to keep going Splite the lanes so no one can get around me ....jump on the CB to get some trucker help also.... Belly Shut Down the Lane

You need to add another category. . . You could call it the "Fuck It Category." We had 4 separate drivers drive through our barricades in Dayton 2 weekends ago after we poured a couple of concrete bridge decks. Two of the cars drove right through and left nice tire tracks, and the other 2 got stuck in the wet concrete. . . one driver stayed there passed out, and the other made a run for it on foot.

A,B,C,D,E,F--it depends how drunk I am...
  • FatHobbit
If I'm not in the lane that ends I'll let anyone in that's already in front of me. But if someone tries to speed up and squeeze in I won't let them.

If I'm in the lane that ends and the cars beside me aren't going ridiculously slow, I'll get over as soon as I see it.
  • brutus161
D all the time. I drive an Armada so it is easy to block the other lane.
  • bigkahuna
I get over as soon as I notice that I have to.

I turn into a C if I see someone speeding way up trying to squeeze in. You know what, we all have to wait in line, WTF makes you so special?

It's kind of hard to be a D in a Civic...

    Bahahaha!! This! +1000000!

I'm kind of a hybrid of A and C. I don't let people waiting for the last minute to switch lanes get past me, but I don't force the issue to road rage levels, either.
