  Special Olympics has been very rewarding. All four of my children have volunteered and came away with a new found love and respect for our challenged children. You will never here any of them make fun of some one with less capabilities or call anyone the "R" word. Some of the cellar dwellers on here may learn a thing or two if they were to participate.

  Toys for Ta-Tas (strippers collecting toys for under priviledged kids at Christmas)...I worked the collection boxes.

  I enjoyed doing Habitat last fall. It was sort of court appointed in that I had to do 10 hours but it could've been with any organization but I really did enjoy it and will probably go out a few times this year to help out. My wife and I are considering joining Big Brothers/Big Sisters this summer, too.

  I enjoyed cooking for God's Love We Deliver, a program that provides meals for home-bound adults with serious illness.
  
  Lately, I've been getting more involved with my synagogue's programs. I like the idea of helping out the community. Through this I've gotten to help cook for a homeless shelter and visit residents at the local health center.

  We used to volunteer for a day at the local animal shelter back in college. I really enjoyed that as well. We didn't really have to do much. Just get the dogs out of their kennels and run them around a bit, play with them, whatever.

  Appalachian Service Project... it's like Habitat for Humanity but it's in the mountains and you spend a week helping make a family's home warmer, safer and dryer. It does have a religion aspect to it as it is a United Methodist organization. Also at this point you would have to go with your church as a leader, as I think the volunteer age is 17-22
  
  Habitat for Humanity is another one I like
  
  I do a bit of volunteering with Citizens for Humane action, it's the closest thing we have to the ASPCA here, the humane societies are also good, but they are kill shelters.

  Oh yes they do! Here's one way Serving Our Seniors helps 17 and 18 years olds connect and respect those who have gone before us.

  I'm currently invovled with Big Brothers/Big Sisters and it's very rewarding.
  
  As far as the best, they are all great organizations out there that need more volunteers. Each one I've been associated with was an awesome experience.
