and you say the situation is a douche??darbypitcher22 wrote: I must be the only person who can actually sit down and watch a WNBA game and appreciate and enjoy it -
darbypitcher22what I don't get is why bash women's basketball? just because they can't dunk? its always getting bashed(and yes, before you say it, I had a sister that played but its besides the point). These women are great athletes and are the best at what they do. I enjoy watching a women's game over a men's pro game any day. The women actually play defense and do things fundamentally sound half of the time, and they pass the ball, not pull all the individual one-on-one bullshit that dominates an NBA contest
-
mallymal614Watching Maya Moore and UConn the other night made me appreciate some of the game these women have. .
-
Hb31187Theyre great athletes...for women yes.
-
Hb31187And as far as saying ud rather watch a WNBA game then a Mens pro game...refer to the above image
-
darbypitcher22why do you have to distinguish between being male and female athletes? yes, I'm well aware of the physical differences, but it has never stopped the women from being able to compete (Billie Jean King, Nancy Lieberman, etc.) with males either
-
KR1245I dont have a problem with the WNBA. I would never watch a womens basketball game over a mens game but everybody is entitled to their opinion. I dont think the the mens game is this street ball/And-1 tour that people make it out to be. Do the women play more fundamental basketball? Sure, because they have to, they dont have the athleticism to break down a defense like a man does.
The Billie Jean King thing is the exception rather than the rule. Besides, the dude she beat was 55 while she was 30. -
Hb31187Because i have numerous friends who are girls who played D1 basketball...and at the local rec center they have difficulty even getting a shot off. Theyre good athletes....when compared to their peers or non athletic males. When compared to athletic males...theyre often verrry far behind. At least thats been my expirience with basketball

iclfan2I'd have to agree with the majority here, the WNBA is a joke, and loses money. It is shocking to me how it is still around. Also Darby, what sport can women compete with males in? I'm gonna have to go with the big 00.
-
dazedconfusedwhat's this "WNBA" you speak of?
-
Cleveland BuckIt doesn't bother me if other people like women's basketball. I could just never watch it. I love watching team basketball as much as anyone, but I prefer to watch players with skill and athletic ability play it. And if you think the NBA is just one-on-one basketball, then you either don't watch it or you only watch the worst teams play.
-
sleeperI don't understand why people say the NBA plays no defense? You have 10 guys on the court who are either great shooters or just mammoths in the post, and they play more minutes than any other league. Also, while defense wins championships, defense is boring, so bashing a league that doesn't do something that is BORING doesn't make any sense.

Heretic
PROTIP: When you say "I'm not going to let you trash women's basketball", that insinuates you have a means of stopping one from trashing women's basketball. Honestly, you don't. You can make counterpoints (that, from the general opinion of the WNBA, likely will be ignored or mocked), but you can't stop it.darbypitcher22 wrote: what, because I'm not going to let you trash women's basketball?
In my opinion, the so-called "superior fundamentals" that women's basketball has makes them less compelling due to being combined with lesser athleticism. After OSU's women's NCAA tournament loss, on the "bash Jim Foster for sucking in big games" thread, I mentioned how the Bucks never mounted any real comeback after getting down. Someone replied that the women's game doesn't really have those runs near the frequency the men's game does.
That made me think. On the norm, what causes those runs? Athletes being athletes. Aggressive presses forcing turnovers, pure shooters heating up to NBA Jam "on fire" status, powerhouses slamming inside to pound down dunks. In the more fundamental game, it tends to more often be the superior team just choking down their opponent by simply being better. The men's game is more unpredictable and more enjoyable to me.
