Debt collectors

  • GoChiefs
Are these guys retarded or what? Sittin' here enjoying the day, phone rings. Check out the caller ID and it's from my mortgage company. We are currently trying to do a loan modification, so I go ahead and answer it. Of course, it's one of these foreign assholes.

So he goes on to tell the usual 'How this is a debt collection from the mortgage company' and blah, blah, blah. At this point, I'm a little confused, because we don't owe them any money. He continues to go on making sure I'm really Mr. GoChiefs, then he says yes, I'm calling you today on behalf of your mortgage debt, and looking through the records, it's showing that you are...and there is a long pause for about 20 seconds. Then repeats 'Our records are showing that your status is current and you don't owe anything'. How can I help you today?

Say what? What the hell do you mean how can you help me? YOU CALLED ME! He's like..my apologies sir, let me look to see why we are calling you. Holds for a couple of minutes, comes back on the line, "Yes sir, we were just calling to let you know your account was current and in good standing."

Really? So now not only do the assholes bother you and call you when you are behind on a payment..but now they bother you when you don't owe them anything????

Yes..I know..let me get it out of the way.

Not a debt collector, but Capital One would always call me 2 weeks before my payment was due and ask for my payment. Not only did they call me 2 weeks before anything was due, they would call me 5-7 times a day for a week. Every time I would tell them the same thing. Eventually it stopped, but it was the most annoying thing.

They are dumbasses no doubt!! But hey its their job I guess but I am never nice to telemarketers, solicitors, etc.... Heck I don't answer the phone if I don't know the number calling, they can leave me a message if its that important!
  • GoChiefs
Yeah...I always ignore them too. But I figured it was about the loan mod that they have been dicking us around on for the last year. But nope. Just wanted to tell me I was current! I guess it was a monumental moment for them b/c I haven't been current for a while? And I understand it's their job..that's why normally, I try to be a nice guy with them. But for gods sake, with everyone losing their homes these days, you'd think they would be busy bothering people that owe money!

Somebody give me GoChiefs phone number.

Gonna call him and tell him he is a member of Ohio Chatter and his account is active.

Heartland bank always sends me late notices with a postmark of the 12th when the payments are due on the 15th

We here in India would just like to let you know that you have just paid your bill, how may I help you?

I worked in debt collecting for 8 month. Terrible job.

Heres a tip. Instead of actually going through all the BS, use your head, say don't call this number again and hang up. Annoyance over.

There is a guy on another forum I frequent that makes a living getting collection agencies to violate the fair collections act or whatever. I guess he gets $1000 per violation.
  • Automatik
What?! That is insane. That amount of money for each offense seems exaggerated. Where I worked you could probably find a few violations each day. Mostly minor errors, like screwups in the opening script.

Pretty sure it's true. I had a friend have a collection agency keep calling him and he got $5k for 5 phone calls after he told them to stop.

No, when you tell them to not call your number again and they do anyway.

There is also one about refusing to validate debt

Also saying that they are going to freeze your bank accounts and garnish your wages is a major violation as well.

They're real. They have handled our evictions for 30+ years. Probably a screw up.

I know the firm is real but they have no business calling me. I looked them up.

I hope to hell they stop calling. The lady I talk to sounds really cool and says she will take care of it but 2 days later they call again. Like I said I contacted Franklin County and they have nothing on me in file. Hopefully she gets it squared away that I ain't the dude they are looking for.

my dad pays our cellphone bill (lucky me) and somehow my number is the "account number" so i always get calls when a payment is past due. literally 3-4 times a day until it is paid. i tried to call them and tell them that calling me wont do anything and they should change the number to my dads, but they wont let me since i am not authorized to do so on the account...god damn its annoying
  • wildcats20
Just have your dad add you as an authorized user. And then you can change all that.
  • UA5straightin2008
^^he wont because he doesnt trust me, he thinks ill go to the store and buy things and just have it billed to the account hoping it will go unnoticed lol, which i may or may not do lol
  • wildcats20
lol Well then have him change the number. But yeah I was late a couple times on my Verizon bill, they are ruthless as far as calling. And it's always that damn recording with the weird police movie type music.
