Someone stole my xbox 360

  • tcarrier32
the same thing happened to one of my neighbors on April 1st at about 1:30am. They figured it was either me or another one of our friends who stole it as an April Fools Joke.

    What part was false?

Most property theft doesn't occur from unknown people to the victim. Am I wrong?
Just googling some research says that its under 50% that the victims know the offenders.

Really. Items less than $500 being stolen are taken by unknown people more times than not??

I am sorry I was wrong then.

You may not be wrong, just looked at some stuff quickly.

Burglary is different these days with high priced items being smaller. It doesn't take too long to break into a house, with the door being unlocked, and grabbing an xbox/labtop/ipods/camera's etc.

Especially if SL lives around a college, its most likely going to be a random person. Those individuals know its college kids leaving their doors open with computers and game systems laying around.

I am betting it wasn't burglary but rather theft.

    ...just a hunch.

I think its someone who knows either you or roommate. What are the chances that it happened while you went to the lake and while your friend was taking a crap. It just sounds a bit fishy that it was perfect timing on whoever stole it.

Its burglary since they entered the house unlawfully.

    It happens though.

My friend's left for one class and had stuff stolen. Luckily the person was caughty, who they did not know at all.

That's my point...I am guessing that someone didn't do just what you stated...enter the house unlawfully for the purpose of committing the offense.

So you are saying someone that lives at the residence decided to take the xbox?

Because even if it was one of SL's friends that doesn't live there, he still would be entering the house unlawfully.
  • Con_Alma
    I am not saying anything.

I am guessing it was someone that knows him that was present with the knowledge and approval of S&L.

    Theft definition
Completed or attempted theft of property or cash without personal contact. Incidents involving theft of property from within the sample household would classify as theft if the offender has a legal right to be in the house (such as a maid, delivery person, or guest).

I didn't read through all the posts, but this happened to me back in 05/06. I checked ebay and craigslist constantly, added myself to my new xbox live account to check if it ever got online, and emailed microsoft. If I remember correctly, all Microsoft will do is ban your console when it's online. I think the local police have to contact Microsoft just in order to get the ip address, then the cops go from there to the ISP...but ISP's are usually bitches to get customer information from.

I am gonna go with someone from the party the night before taking it. your roommate could swear he saw it the next day, but unless he was actually playing it, he could just be assuming he remembered it being there until he realized it was gone when he came back from the bathroom. yes most burglaries happen during the day, but i would be willing to bet that they would they would have do a quick look around the house for something else and not just walked in, grabbed the xbox and been out in a minute. do you have any other expensive stuff in the area of the xbox? where is the bathroom at compared to your front and back doors? should your roommate have been able to hear them come or go from it?

Yeah, I'm also thinking it was someone from the night before, who scoped it out and was like "yeah, we could come back in like 2 hours and gank this console"

"do you have any other expensive stuff in the area of the xbox?"
-That depends when the console was taken. If it was taken after our party, there's nothing really there...about 10 DVDs are on top of the TV and about 5 other xbox games...none of those were taken. It's so weird they wouldn't take those DVDs or games, yet would take 2 other games sitting on the actual console...that makes me think it was just one person, who was in a hurry (aka couldn't make a few trips in and out), and just carried out what he could.

If it was while we were at the lake, my mac laptop was sitting on the couch, about 3 feet to the right of the xbox. Fortunately, I put a blanket over top of it right before I left...there were also 3 xbox controllers under the blankets.

"where is the bathroom at compared to your front and back doors? should your roommate have been able to hear them come or go from it?"
-Umm..tryin to explain this the best I can..our house is VERY small, it's just a small broke ass lookin college house. When you walk in the front door, the living room is where you walk in, and the TV/xbox are sittin right there to the left of the door. If you walk to the next room, that's the kitchen...the bathroom is in the back of the kitchen, and the back door is to the left of the kitchen, in a little hallway.

When you turn our light switch on in the bathroom, the fan also comes on...it's very loud..you can't hear a thing when ur in there with the fan on and the door closed.

I was going to post on the Buy/Sell/Trade forum that I was selling an Xbox 360 and needed to sell it fast but avoided doing so out of bad taste.

So the thinking is that while your roommate was in the bathroom, someone broke in and stole the x-box? I don't know, seems kind of fishy.
Something to think about: Is it an easy task to unhook your xbox? My roommate keeps his elite one hooked up in the living room, but there's also a modem and a stereo and a huge TV and a bunch of other random wires and shit -- you have to bend over in awkward position to find the outlet behind the TV. I think someone UNFAMILIAR with the living room and that whole mess would have a difficult time unhooking it cleanly while someone's in the bathroom down the hall.

Just kick some ass until you find it.

I don't know what your living situation is.... but I read somewhere, maybe even on here...

Someone had their XBox stolen that lived in an apartment or dorm and took their wireless around hitting the button to turn it on and found the place where it actually worked and they recovered their console. Just a thought.

Nah not difficult...the cord goes right into the wall and its not behind anything...it would take about 5 seconds to unplug everything and leave.

Athens PD have already contacted them. I do need to see if I can get them to call Nelsonville, I don't think they reported this to them.

    Thanks.

Athens: Where police do actual police work for stolen x-boxes.
    ......

It was definitely somebody you know. Random shit like this doesn't happen in Athens--and if it did, they'd have taken more than just an X-box.

The fact they didn't even take the games means to me they came in with a quick plan to grab and go... Which means they knew where the shit was that they wanted and weren't looking around.

It probably got ganked at your little shindig. Probably a friend of a friend who got crunk and said fuck your shiny little xbox. Could also be a friend. Lord knows, anybody will get grimey and take shit if the time is right.

Also, if you were openly talking about going to the lake the next day... The dudes whom didn't go... Those are the dudes I'd start with.

Then followed with "friends of friends" who were there the night before.

The cop said something about this..he said if this happened in any other year, he'd point to a friend or a friend of a friend immediately. But, recently (the last 4 weeks or so), he said there's been 2 separate instances where an "Athens townie" has been arrested for stealing shit from students' houses. He said within the last 4 weeks, there's been 8 robberies ...all where only a handful of shit was stolen, and in 2 of the cases, it was a worthless, crack addict piece of shit Athens townie.
