I Hate Cats, but I Saved a Cat
-
SnotBubbles...and it will probably repay me by getting in my trash or shitting in my yard.
The house next to us was foreclosed on almost a year ago. Within the last two weeks, someone had kicked in the door to the basement. I went over and closed it. Well, starting Monday I was beginning to hear a cat howling in fear/pain. It went on for a few days and I didn't think much of it.
Last night we came home from dinner and I heard it again...but closer. I walked over to the neighbor's house and noticed a hole in their foundation. I peered inside and saw the cat. It was stuck in the basement. I went around back and opened the door. Sure enough there was the cat. I baited it out with some lunch meat. When it came out, it had either lost an eye or it had gotten cut and closed. It was normal size until you got below it's ribs....the cat was about an inch thick in the midsection. It was actually quite sad...and I hate cats.
So, I gave it the lunch meat...got some water for it and went about my business. This is a big step for me. Cats annoy the shit out of me and like I said, shit in my yard and tear up my trash.
Why am I sharing this? I don't have a clue. Maybe I want an award or something. So someone please give me a Humanitarian Award. Thanks. -
SnotBubblesThere...I added a poll to give this thread some substance.
-
GoChiefsI would have gave you an award..but I hate cats. And you saved a cat. Kill it. I'll give you a $1.00.
As for the poll..neither..I wouldn't have just let it die or did what you did. I hate cats..but I still don't believe they should have to suffer, so you could have found a humane way to kill it. So..I guess I vote for the 3rd option..Killing it humanely.
But in all seriousness..you did a good thing. Your mother would be proud. -
Con_AlmaIt's an animal not a human. You wouldn't receive a humanitarian award for assisting an animal.
-
CenterBHSFanYou did the right thing!
Hopefully you can take it to a no-kill or a regular shelter. Or maybe somebody in the country that needs a good mouser. Cat's do not belong roaming on the streets. -
krambmanI too hate cats. Here is the world's largest cookie as an award.
-
SnotBubbles
But wouldn't you receive a Humanitarian Award for being humane? Being "humane" is being marked or motivated by concern with the alleviation of suffering. So in that case...I could get a Humanitarian Award.Con_Alma wrote: It's an animal not a human. You wouldn't receive a humanitarian award for assisting an animal.
Or a giant cookie. I prefer the cookie. -
justincredibleI'm not particularly fond of cats but I'd never just let one die. You did the right thing. Now enjoy your cookie.

Hmmm, maybe, now that you made me look at it that way.SnotBubbles wrote:

HereticI like cats and have two of the furry bastards. So I say that you should have that cookie and savor it.

Mr. 300The only good cat is a dead cat.
-
THE4RINGZWhile you were in the house you should have gone upstairs and upper decked the toilet. That seems to be a pretty common solution to problems on this site.
-
dlazzI've never been a fan of seeing an animal suffer. You did the right thing in my books.

I agree but there is a million cats where I live. They all look mangy and are agressive as hell if you try to approach them. I have an airsoft gun if they get to close or try to come in the garage or the house. Lady down the street feeds them, she just opens a giant bag and lays it on the front porch and they come by the hundreds to eat. Pisses me off and I have told her as well as the HOA but to no avail. Soon there will be antifreeze shakes to go around.dlazz wrote: I've never been a fan of seeing an animal suffer. You did the right thing in my books. -
UA5straightin2008you did the right thing but the chances it survives out in the wild now are kind of slim given the condition you state, shoulda called the humane society or the pound or something!!
-
SnotBubbles^^^
I thought about that, but the Logan Co. Humane Society euthanizes healthy animals every day, just because they don't have room. I figured the cat had a better chance of survival on its own. -
darbypitcher22I don't really like cats either, but I wouldn't want to see one die.
Kudos to you. -
SykotykDefinitely the right thing.
All animals feel pain. Pain is a natural defense mechanism to warn the creature to avoid a particular obstacle, situation, or danger. If you feel pain touching a hot surface, you're likely to not touch a hot surface again.
To let any creature suffer is rather cruel and denies the basic empathy you have inside yourself.
in other words, how would you like to be locked in a basement with no food to die.
You did the right thing. Compassionate people everywhere applaud your kindness.

As an owner of 14 cats/kittens, I commend the original poster for doing what he could. I've taken in strays off the street, taken them to the vet (at my own expense), nursed them back to health (quarantining them away from my healthy cats) and found a home for them. I can't bear seeing animals suffer. Old age has softened me because as a younger man I wasn't always like this. -
HitsRusI used to hate cats but on a cold, snowy day several Decembers ago, an injured kitten sought refuge in our garage. We took it in, took it to the vet, and tried for weeks to find its owner or someone to take it. In the meantime, the cat so endeared itself to us that we adopted it, and it has been one of the best animals I have ever owned. It never fails to give me an affection nuzzle when I come home, goes for a walk with me and the dog, and will keep an eye on me while I'm working in the yard. It completely changed my viewpoint on the species.
I hope you keep it, and it becomes as good a family member as mine. -
mtrulzGreat decision Snotty.
