NFL Coaching Carousel - Basement Version

  • Tiernan
Since I've been unfairly locked in the basement and can't talk to the big kids upstairs I have to bitch & moan from down here...

Told ya on the Kelly hire Brownie fans (first to call it - ya can look it up). Haslam fashions himself as a Jerry Jones hard ass type guy and thinks he can buy a winner in Cleveland...its like trying to buy yourself a golf game - it don't work like that. You need an elite QB to win in the NFL and there aren't any in this draft and no really good free agents available either. Look for at least 3 - 4 more years of below mediocrity Browns no matter who the coach is.

If Andy Reid gets hired by AZ he actually got promoted by getting fired. If he goes to to KC its like a lateral move.

O'Brien ain't goin anywhere anytime soon. The buyout at Pedo State is just too big for any sane owner to pick up. Hmmmm that means Haslam might just do it.

Better than having an owner that won't spend any money.
  • mtp2013
I'll feel bad for whoever has to settle for the Cleveland job.

You don't need an elite QB to win in the nfl. Look at dalton and ponder tiernen. You need a good defense, and a great set of coaches to win some football games.

Dalton and Ponder havent won anything that matters in my mind.

I was talking about regular season wins/playoff appearances. As a browns fan, I'll take a winning record and call it a super bowl appearance.

Bears looking at a CFL coach...First Down eh?

Kelly looking more and more to be headed to Cleveburg. Just call me "The Insider" as I called it the day Shurmer went down...you can look it up on Browns thread. Took alot of shit for it but once again I'm the smartest poster on the OC...situation normal.

but but but he's the smartest poster on the OC. how dare you disagree?
  • Tiernan
    You really can't

I can't wait for Tiernans about it being the first time he's been wrong all year blah blah blah. And the world keeps spinning.

20 mins. ago Kelly turned down the Browns offer just to make me look bad. When asked why he was staying at Oregon, Kelly replied, "...just to make Tiernan look bad."

so there you have it...I was right but wrong all at the same time.
  • hasbeen
And two days ago Haslam told Kelly to fuck off. Just to piss you off, I'm sure.
  • Tiernan
Now you're just making shit up Neverbeen...

Haslam doesn't have nearly the swag he thinks he has and Kelly stuffed him on it. Brownies will settle for another second tier guy now and expect 3 - 4 yrs of dismal mediocrity.

A couple articles in there about how the Browns moved away from Kelly after they left Arizona without a signature. Instead of playing the wait and see game with Kelly, they decided his wariness wasn't something they found attractive for a potential HC.

But what about Brad Johnson and Trent Dilfer? Hell, even Big Ben's 1st Super Bowl win he played like absolute shit and that season he wasn't the reason they won. He was merely a game manager with only 2,300 or 2,400 passing yards.

True..yo dont need an elite QB to win the SB, but....here is the list of 'recent' SB winners:

    Manning
    Rodgers
    Brees
    Rapistburger..on fringe of elite
    Manning
    manning
    Roethlisberger..game manager
    brady
    brady
Tampn Bay QB..forget whom it was
    Brady
    Dilfer..non elite
    Warner
    Elway
    Elway
    Favre
    Aikmen
    Young
    Aikman
    Aikman
    Rypien..non big time
    Simms..not elite
    Montana
    Montana....

Pretty decent list...I like my chance WITH an elite QB..

    reps to thavoice.

Teams with elite QBs win in th NFL period. To try to argue differently is just FWK.

I don't disagree that it would be a huge benefit to have a truly elite QB; in fact, I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who wouldn't want a truly elite QB on their team. The argument was that you do not necessarily need an elite QB to win in the NFL. Brad Johnson (the Tampa Bay QB), Trent Dilfer and Ben Roethlisberger's 1st Super Bowl have shown that to be true.

Is it harder to win without an elite QB? Of course, but it's still possible.
  • Tiernan
as the NFL evolves with more sophisticated Defenses requiring more vertical Offenses, its becoming less possible.
  • hasbeen
Wasn't Brady less than elite during his first, if not first two, super bowls? I really can't remember.
