Keeper discussion

Getting to be that time of year again...

I am in standard scoring, 12 team league with .5 PPR and 6pts for all TDs.

    I can only keep one:

    Peyton manning
    Shady McCoy
    Eddie lacy
    Brandon Marshall

Peyton is the smart move, but do I trust him and his injuries? I pick 12th, would an elite QB fall to me there so I can keep shady or one of the other position players?

6pts for a passing TD I'm keeping Peyton(or any of the other top QBs) 100% of the time. If this was the standard 4pts for a passing TD I'd go with McCoy.
  • sportchampps
    Manning for sure
  • jmog
Manning for sure due to 6 pts for passing. If it was standard then it would be McCoy.

In a 1 guy keeper league with this scoring I wouldn't be surprised if the top 5 QBs are kept and then RBs, where most 1 guy keeper leagues it is RBs that are kept.

You're picking 12th? I would keep McCoy without even hesitating.

You know you're going to need at least 3 RB's, and by picking 12th no one on McCoy's level will be available. Yes Peyton is awesome, but it's a passing league and you can get someone later. It's about value and keeping McCoy while picking 12 is much more valuable than keeping Peyton and picking 12.

I have the a similar situation. Our is also a keeper league and I have McCoy and Manning but you give up the draft pick of where the player is projected to go. Since we don't know our draft order yet, whether I keep McCoy is contingent on where I pick. If I pick 1st or 2nd I'm going to keep Manning and draft an elite RB. If I'm picking 5th or worse I'm for sure keeping McCoy and worrying about a QB later.

I love Manning, but it's allllll about value.

I'm honestly really surprised that the others who posted choose Manning. Not because I think I'm right, but because I didn't expect it to be that much of a minority opinion.

I mean if you really think Peyton is going to have another record breaking year, and be THAT much better than all other quarterbacks, it's a different question. I don't share that opinion though, and I have Peyton too.

Three people in my league told me McCoy. But interestingly they all pick in the top 5 lol so I decided to ask the question on here. I'm torn.

Do you have to declare by a certain time? I mean, can you get a good idea who everyone else is keeping first?

If everyone else is keeping RBs and leaving QBs, then yeah, keep McCoy, if it is the other way around and QBs are gone, I still say keep Manning ONLY because it is 6 pt TDs.

EDIT: Oh shit, I just noticed you are picking 12th...that changes some things (sorry, missed that part).

I would lean more toward keeping the RB in that case as it is more likely to get a good QB at 12 than a good RB.

UNLESS, like I said, if they keep mostly QBs and there are plenty of RBs available.

Yes there is a deadline jmog. It's a week or two before the draft I'll have to look at the exact date. Good idea with seeing who is available and who is not.

I'm starting to come around to the idea of McCoy since no RB at 12 will be elite. But I think manning will have another great season and if he throws for 4 TDs a game and I let him walk...

S&L, I should probably give you more insight into my thinking: I think Cutler and Stafford are going to have big to huge years, and I'd rather have one of them (or another top QB that slips) with McCoy than a non-elite RB and Manning.

12 team PPR league. 1 flex. All TDs are worth 4, so the emphasis is on yards and catches. Auction hybrid draft (100 "dollars" to spend to fill 10 spots on your roster. Snake draft to fill out the last 6 spots.)

Can keep anywhere from 0-2 players, amount comes off of the 100 you start with for the auction. Players who were picked up during the year or auctioned for less than 10 dollars, cost 10 to franchise, no matter what. If a player was auctioned for more than 10, he can be kept for that amount for 1 season, then he is back in the pool.

    Options:

    Vereen- $10
    Jordy- $10
    Harvin- $10
    Vernon Davis-$11
Cruz- $17- Not going to do this. I don't see him getting auctioned for more than this amount.

I think Nelson is a steal for 10 bucks. I think I am definitely keeping him. Harvin is intriguing, especially with Tate gone. We get nothing for anything he does return-wise but if healthy, he will get the ball in so many different ways. Vereen was a PPR beast last year but anybody typically not named Gronk or Brady in New England can go either way. I don't see myself franchising a TE not named Jimmy Graham.

I understood your logic and it makes sense.

Guess it all barrels down to will Peyton throw for 4 TDs a game again. Because if he does, I'll take that and a non-elite RB over the alternatives.

Vereen-No added value, he is worth about $10 so unless you want him real bad and don't want to chance losing him to someone who would overspend, I say no.
Jordy-No brainer yes. He is worth about $17-20 in a typical auction.
    Harvin-No, worth less than $10
    Davis-No, worth less than $10

Now, I will say this, with your system of only needing 10 guys for the $100 and snake drafting the last 6 spots you can add anywhere from $1-2 of value to the normal auction lists you see (I just posted normal auctions). With that said, that makes Vereen a possible yes based on being slightly better than $10 and Harvin/Davis right at about that number so they could go either way.

Jordy is the only one you absolutely have to do.

I look at this just like keepers where you lose that round draft pick (how ours is). If I ADP out the draft and he would go higher than the round where I can keep him for then yes. If it is the same or lower then I do not. Lower for sure I do not and the same ONLY if I love the guy and would want to make sure I got him.

So if you have some love for Harvin or Vereen or Davis then I'd think about one of those two. Cruz is a no, Jordy is a yes.

Wait until the last possible minute and see what RBs and QBs have already been declared, just be ready to pull the trigger so you don't get screwed.

Right. And since you're picking 12th you can snag two 2nd tier RBs back to back if you keep PM. Basically you're in a prime position either way
