Comparing the NFL to fantasy football is retarded, you know it, I know it.

The only thing similar is the fact that the players/stats are used.

After that, the 'games' are nothing alike.

In a real NFL game my team has the ability to stop your team from scoring. In fantasy football I have zero control over your team scoring. I could score a billion points and still can not control the outcome because the other team can score a billion and 1. In that scenario my team did nothing wrong. In an NFL game if I score a billion and give up a billion and one I deserve to lose because my defense sucks.

The only thing you can control in fantasy football is how many points your team scores week in and week out. Fantasy leagues do head/head 'games' and playoffs because it is 'familiar' and easy to set up.

Many serious leagues are just going to "top half of each week in points get wins, bottom half in points each week get losses" instead of head to head.

I almost got in a huge money league ($500 entry) that did just that each week of the season (was a 16 team league, so top 8 got a win, bottom 8 got a loss). 8 teams made 'playoffs', in the playoffs top 4 in points of the 8 moved on to the next round. In the 2nd round, top 2 moved on, then you did have a single championship game.

THAT is a MUCH better way to determine a fantasy champion than how 99% of leagues do it.

Ours doesn't go that far, we are one step better than standard leagues though, since we reward scoring total points throughout a 16 game season instead of just what team happens to get lucky in the last 2-3 games of the year.

I'm up 63.7 points. He has Reggie Bush and Calvin Johnson. I could still lose if they go off.

Jimmy Graham did not help my cause yesterday.

I like this. It actually makes a lot more sense than head-to-head matchups.

The guy with the second most points in the regular season came in last with a 3-10 record. Everyone always seemed to have career days against him.

On the other hand I was 9-4 and was 6th in league scoring, 2nd in the standings. I just happened to get lucky that i had least points scored against me.

So I ended up raping in my money league. Did lose Fitz for the championship week, though. The guy (#1 seed) I was really worried about is eliminated. Hopefully I can pull next week off...

In my for fun league..I missed the draft so I autodrafted. I've even had a few weeks where I forgot to set my lineup. I barely snuck into the playoffs last week by winning by 2 points. This week I am up against the #1 seed who has by far the best team, but I have Jamaal Charles LOL. Its all but over. I kind of feel bad for him.

As long as megatron can get me 2 points I will move into the championship game. I could start Bell tonight and hope he gets me 2 points or 15 rushing yards but I'm not going to risk that. After yesterday when at the last minute I started Buffalo's Def over San Fran I learned to just start your studs and you won't have to almost have a heart attack at the end of games. Also thanks Romo for that last pick... if you don't throw it I've already won!

Exactly what I meant but obviously on average if you draft/trade/WW/set lineup to have a great team you will out score most teams in your league. Regular leagues there is almost always a guy that is in the top 3 in points and missed the playoffs because everyone just blew up against him. By strength of his team he deserves to be in the playoffs but is not.

Our ur league allows this guy to still get paid as long as he keeps scoring well through week 16. The league I described about gets the best teams in the playoffs regardless of luck.

I kind of like the luck portion of it. It happens to everyone. It adds that extra 'dimension' to it all. I also like rewarding the best owners. I'm going to look into a hybrid scoring system for next season.

I played in four money leagues this year. I'm in the championship in 2 leagues this week and the playoffs start in the other league this week and I'm the number 1 seed. I got eliminated in one league before the playoffs.
  • slingshot4ever
I'm in 2 leagues with modest 25 buck buy ins. Didn't make the playoffs in one, in the championship game for the other.

In the finals of my only league...$575 to the winner, $225 to the loser of the title game.

My team is absolutely stacked, and the guy I'm playing asked to split the pot 60/40 in my favor.

So I take home, right now, $480.

I took it...I figured the extra $95 isn't worth losing the extra $255.

I'm normally not one to take a spilt but I definitely would have here. Good call by you.

Yeah, thanks. I'm glad you said that, because I was hoping I wasn't being a coward there.

Yes, I'll probably win and cost myself $95. But if I lose I'm costing myself $255.

Good way to hedge your bet. My pot is only $200 so i'd rather lose it all than split.

I won my money league on Monday. Nice Christmas bonus. Good luck to anyone still going this week.

Cutler vs Philly (risk him getting hurt)

    or

Stafford vs. NYG (risk him playing like he has the past 2 weeks)

    Thanks.
  • Dr. KnOiTaLL
Well, you see, I lost in the semi's last week... essentially to Jamal Charles. Now I'm playing for third, and Ben Tate just got put on the IR, Stevie Johnson isn't playing because his mother passed away, and Jordan Cameron is likely to miss with a concussion. Awesome.

I'd go Stafford. But I think both guys have huge games. Phillys Def is terrible and the Giants have given up.

Been reading different analysts i like and it seems it's just flip a coin between the two.

Yeah that's how I feel too. I think for standard leagues they both will get over 20 points. I have a feeling Stafford gets around 30 points and Cutler get around 25. Either way I just hope both have huge games as I have Megatron, Marshall, and Forte. I also have Cutler but I'm not starting him. As a Cowboys fan I can't start someone over Romo and live with it if he goes off.

My money league championship is going to come down to the wire. I'm leading 207-198. I have Osi Umenyiora left and he has Anquan Boldin. Projected finish is 210.33-208.63 to me.

IN the fun league I am done at 174. Other guy is at 156 Patrick Willis and Osi left..Probably going to win that one to go to the championship.

I need San Fran's D to do 2 out of 3 -- Allow 16 points or less, less than 307 total yards, and get 4+ turnovers tonight and I will win my championship.

Also fuck the Eagles for continuing to throw in the 2nd half. 4 less passing yards for Foles and I would have already won.
