I'm having an "issue" in my league (i'm the commissioner)

So please everyone tell me I did the right thing...

Two owners in my league recently made a "1 week trade"

Basically, team A traded a QB for 1 week to Team B and Team B traded a WR to team A for 1 week.

Team B needed a QB because he has Tom Brady who is on BYE.

I personally think this is cheating by bypassing the BYE weeks.

I took a vote from our league, and 8 of the 9 owners agreed to disallow this...the two owners are all pissed off saying it's bullshit that they can't do that, because it's no different than making a trade by the rules, then the next week making the trade back to where they were before (again, by the rules).

Did I do the right thing by banning "1 week trades"?

Bullshit trade. Prep for byes like a man or get thumped. It would also depend on who the players were.

I don't like it, it is collusion.

    The trade was this:

Team A traded Matt Stafford to Team B
Team B traded Darren Sproles to Team A

Team A has an elite QB, I think it's Brees...so Stafford just sits on his bench. So he traded Stafford this week, and has Sproles in his starting lineup. Then after this week, he's going to get Stafford back and give Sproles back.

It's fucking collusion. Team A's owner is so dead set on this being legal (because, technically, they are doing nothing wrong...) and that we are doing this just to fuck these two owners.

He is claiming that we can veto the trades like normal, but to completely ban 1 week trades is ridiculous.

    Just veto the second trade.
  • SportsAndLady
    ^haha that's a good idea

I agree with others who say its collusion. I'm in a league that has 2 groups of 3 brothers. Every trade they make has to be looked at closely because they are always scheming ways to make sure each of the brothers makes the playoffs.

I wouldn't allow it in my league. I changed the rules so there is no vote I have control and tell everyone before they turn in their money.

I agree that it's shady, but if you didn't have rules set regarding it, I'd let it go. Go from this point forward on the new "rule" since you had 7 of 9 or whatever say the trade was BS, or put it into play for next year.

Definitely should not allow it. It is a shady move and collusion for sure. I agree with the person who said maybe they should have prepped for bye weeks better.

    Get the fuck over it

Not totally the same, but I'm in multiple leagues with 2 guys who made a trade in 2 leagues, and each trade was hugely lopsided in favor of the better team in each league. One was Michael Turner for Matt Cassel, which while is BS on its own, he was "upgrading" from Josh Freeman (who averaged essentially the same) and only had one playable RB last week. In the other league it was Ryan Mathews and Santana Moss for Darius Hayward-Bay and Reggie Bush. Everyone got pissed off and both trades were nullified, but being somewhat the same I think you did the right thing.

I forgot to mention this in the OP, but I did allow them to do this 1 week trade..because they did it before the league voted. But I said after this one, no more...that's when the guy started giving me mad shit for it.

I do think its a shady trade. That being said, I am a stickler for a rulebook, and if this didn't break a rule, I say you allow it this time, and create a rule that will disallow this in the future. I think our league did a solid job of foreseeing a bunch of "gray area" scenarios, but things always come up that may or may not cross a line. I do hate these types of trades though, so weak!

Yeah that's exactly what I did. I received like 5 texts today from the owners in my league..they're so pissed about this lol oh well, just have to avoid it in the future
  • Laley23
They didnt break a rule...but it is SOOOO shady. If they try trading back, it wouldnt be breaking any kind of rule to veto it would it? Does your league not vote on that stuff? I assume probably not since it went through this week. But Id try to find a way to fuck them without breaking a rule, and a veto of the second trade seems like a good start.
  • SportsAndLady
Yeah you can veto trades...but no one thought to veto the trade because they didn't know it was just a 1 week trade. I told the 2 owners that I would manually make the switch back after this week since the rule wasn't put in place until after they made the trade. Because the owners would definitely veto the trade back...I figured I'd be a good commish and not allow that to happen. I told them if they did any 1 week trades, they wouldn't be back next year and they were both just like "ah fuck you..but okay" lol
  • Laley23
haha, they knew they were fucking over the league. I wouldnt be nice. Id veto the trade back and tell them to lay in the bed they made. Dont try to fuck with people like that or itll bite you in the ass.

I've ran a league for several years and we once had two owners who continually tried to do 1 week trades based on what they needed for that week. This was between two best friends.

The trades never went through and they continually got pissed off. It turned into a big war in the message board and I ended up booting them out of the league in week 8.

Can;t let some BS like that ruin your league.
  • killer_ewok
The NFL makes new rules midseason and enforces them so why shouldn't you? Fuck those guys and their BS trade. Everybody has to deal with bye weeks.
