Would you make either of these 2 trades?

  • thePITman
In a 10-team league, I think I got the best team out of the draft. I have a number of good RB's and am looking to improve my WR's with the RB trade bait. Here is my roster:

    QB - Matt Ryan (Atl)
    WR - Reggie Wayne (Ind)
    WR - Mario Manningham (NYG)
    RB - LeSean McCoy (Phi)
    RB - Maurice Jones-Drew (Jac)
    TE - Marcedes Lewis (Jac)
    W/R/T - Matt Forte (Chi)

    K - Josh Brown (StL)
    DEF - Philadelphia

    BENCH:
    QB - Matt Cassel (KC)
WR - Marques Colston (NO), Pierre Garcon (Ind)
RB - Ryan Matthews (SD), Tashard Choice (Dal)
    DEF - Atlanta

The two trades someone said they'd be willing to make are as follows:
Larry Fitzgerald (WR, Ari) for Maurice Jones-Drew
    or
Mike Williams (WR, TB) for Matt Forte

The more I look at it, though, my WR corp isn't that bad! Do I reject the trades? If so, do I not make any trades at all? Or do I trade for a top-tier TE?

I'm thinking I just stay put, but I may look to see if any team with good TE's have a WR/RB need.

    What are your thoughts?
  • Rotinaj
W garrard getting released all teams will pry just focus on shutting mojo down. The cards play in a terrible division and fitzy is a beast. Id do the trade.

    Interesting take. Any other thoughts?

MJD has had 1,300+ rushing yards and 300+ receiving yards each of the last 2 years and 23 total TD over that 2-year span. And 3 years ago, he only rushed for 800+ yards but has 12 rushing TD, 500+ receiving yards, and 2 more receiving TD's. He's a TD machine...

    http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/7809/career;_ylt=Aghdrr7luLPyhN0IJ2Q7qSatOot4

Never had less than 317 receiving yards in a season. Outside of last year (1,300+ yards rushing), he's never had less than 9 rushing TD's (only had 5 last year, but tons of yards).

I'd almost be more tempted to dish out LeSean McCoy than MJD. But I don't know...

I also look at the MJD v Fitz trade. See if they will throw in a TE that is good as well. Rotinaj is right, with Gerrard out Jax will struggle offensively and that hurts both MJD and Lewis.

I guess if I did Fitzgerald for MJD, my lineup would be as follows... my flex would go way down.At the end of the day, total fantasy points each week is what matters.

    QB - Matt Ryan
    WR - Larry Fitzgerald
    WR - Reggie Wayne
    RB - LeSean McCoy
    RB - Matt Forte
    TE - Marcedes Lewis
    W/R/T - Ryan Matthews/Tashard Choice/Mario Manningham/Marques Colston

The person that has Fitzgerald also has Jermichael Finley. I wonder if I can do MJD and Lewis for Fitz and Finley.I'm assuming if you'd go for Fitz/MJD, you would also go for this trade in a heartbeat.

Something else to consider... if I made the MJD/Fitz trade, my opponent would have Chris Johnson and MJD... much better than LeSean McCoy and Matt Forte, IMO. Is Forte a really good #2 RB?

I'm just playing Devil's Advocate. Convince me that it's a good trade.

I just proposed MJD/Lewis for Fitzgerald/Finely. If he rejects, I can still consider MJD/Fitz, but I'd be losing lots of points, and I'd be worried about my flex much more, then.
  • Iliketurtles
I don't think I would do either of those trades. Fitz would be nice but I think you are better off having the 2 great RBs and Forte is a great #3 RB because he could be a #2 RB. Also if you do the Fitz/MJD trade Manningham is obviously the guy you put at the flex spot unles Ryan Matthews actually does something this year. Is your league PPR btw?
  • thePITman
    iliketurtles,
It is not a PPR league. What do you think of the MJD/Lewis for Fitzgerald/Finley trade?

I like that trade more then the MJD/Fitz one. And would probably do that trade(which you did offer it to him) I'd say MJD and Fitz are pretty much a wash at this point(I still give MJD a slight edge) and Finley is an obvious upgrade over Lewis.

I'm contemplating canceling the trade I proposed (MJD/Lewis for Fitz/Finley). I'm losing total fantasy points per week by making the trade. Having Forte at the flex spot is much better than having Manningham/Matthews there. I can always pick up Zach Miller of Free Agents if he clears waivers tomorrow.

Plus what if one of McCoy/MJD/Forte gets hurt? Then I have to play Matthews at the #2 RB if I made the trade.

On the other hand, I'm basically getting an elite WR and elite TE for an elite RB and mediocre TE.

I just got an email from the other manager. He thinks it's an interesting proposal and will research Lewis more tonight. If he accepts, I have already prepared the league commissioner to be ready to send a text/email to all the managers to get approval so he can push through/approve the trade before tomorrow night's game (we have 2-day trade approval time, and Finley plays tomorrow). I can still cancel the trade if I want.

Do the Fitz/MJD trade. Kolb is gonna light up teams throwing to him I think.

I do REALLY like MJD, but moving Forte to the position should be fine. If your Flexs dont work out, play the waiver wire for the breakout guys. You know there are always at least 5-10 a year.

Your Flex spot doesn't matter. You do the Fitz/Finely trade and all that happens is you move Forte up to RB and Manningham down to the flex spot instead of Manningham at WR and Forte at the flex. It is true that if Forte or McCoy gets hurt you're basically fucked at RB. But you'd be fucked if they get hurt and you don't do the trade just not as bad. Basically it all comes down to your last point you are getting a top 5 WR and TE and giving up a RB and TE both ranked around 10th at their position.

So straight up you would trade MJD for Fitzgerald? Or does it need to include Lewis for Finley, as well?

I'm thinking right now my WR's are not bad at all - Wayne, Manningham, Colston - and that if he rejects the trade for MJD & Lewis for Fitzgerald & Finley, I will go on with my 3 stud RB's and 2 good WR's and not make any trade. I can't go wrong NOT doing the trade. But I want to IMPROVE my team (not juts move the talent around). If I just move talent around and don't gain ground, helping out my opponent in the process, it was not a successful trade, IMO.

I would not do it straight up because like you said I feel like all your doing is shifting talent from RB to WR and it really isn't doing anything to improve your team.

You have 2 WR's from the colts and with Manning on the sidelines they will not be productive, so you may want to figure out a way to get Fitzgerald. Manning may be off his game for some time with the neck problems. That leaves you with Colston and Manningham as your starters and Colston can sometimes go weeks without scoring many points. You need to look at getting another WR early in the season.

He rejected my trade but asked if I'd go Fitzgerald for Forte. I think I'm going to take it.

Yes I would easily take that.

Lol, honestly....hes a moron. You are getting the better of both deals, but this one is a damn steal! Why turn one down and then offer an even better one?
  • thePITman
I proposed and waiting for him to accept. I'm not sure if he was feeling the waters to see what I'd do when he mentioned it... but I'm thinking he'll accept. I'll probably find out tomorrow.
  • thePITman
With the news that Manning may be out the entire year (or close to it), I'm really glad I was able to pick up Larry Fitzgerald.
  • Iliketurtles
Wait so he took Forte for Fitz? Haha my hat is off to for that one.

Who did you drop to make room for fitzgerald?

I think he just had to trade Forte.

Fritz for forte is a steal
