Drill, Baby, Drill

fish82An interesting turn of events.....Bam officially reverses himself on offshore drilling.
http://apnews.myway.com/article/20100331/D9EPI2PG0.html
After 14 months of nothing but empty rhetoric, it's nice to see him actually throw the Pubs a bone for once.
I'll refrain from going down the "flip-flop" or "political expediency" roads, simply because I so strongly agree with this decision. Well done, Bam. -
sjmvsfscs08Well, it is a flip-flop. But I don't give a shit, this is good news.
If he gives the green light to new nuclear reactors, then I'll really give him a thumbs up. -
cbus4lifeWell done.
-
ptown_trojans_1A good, pragmatic move. He looked at the data before him and made the correct choice.
Now, of course, this is just one part of a whole new agenda on energy. That includes, natural gas, nuclear, solar, wind, etc. -
ManO'WarGood decision for once.
-
fish82The Orange One is grumpy.

He makes some very valid points, but IMO it's a mistake to at least acknowledge this as a decent first step. My dream would be for him to step down next January and let Cantor run the show, but I don't imagine that's happening. -
QuakerOatsWhere is the outrage from the radical environmentalists??
Where is the Sierra Club??
Where are the lawsuits that will tie up this decision for years??
What about the greed of Big Oil??
What about the whales?? -
ManO'WarYea, it is comical how he said whatever the radicals wanted to hear to get elected, then on some of those things, like this, and the war on terror, he has went the exact opposite way.
Typical politician. -
Belly35I totally agree with drilling ...drill, drill , drill
The Obama Administration doesn't know its ass from a hole in the ground and thats what is scary for this country -
WriterbuckeyeDon't have a link yet, but apparently this is far more limited than it need be -- so it's looking more like a token effort than a real chance to make a difference in US energy supplies and job creation.

I see it the other way. The main reason I voted for him was I saw the pragmatic approach he would take to not just foreign policy, but to other issues as well. I never bought into he was a radical, and so far in his administration, it has been the typical liberal Presidency, with a pragmatic foreign policy.ManO'War wrote: Yea, it is comical how he said whatever the radicals wanted to hear to get elected, then on some of those things, like this, and the war on terror, he has went the exact opposite way.

jhay78Good first step, but I'll give him real props when he:
A) opens up Alaska and the Pacific Coast to drilling
B) dismantles, shreds, vetoes, whatever, the Cap and Trade legislation. Whatever benefits may come from this recent decision, Cap and Trade will more than undo. -

I agree and
Some liberal he is.......... -

Eventually you will see it the right way.ptown_trojans_1 wrote:

“At the same time the White House makes today’s announcement, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is plotting a new massive job-killer that the American people can’t afford: a cascade of new EPA regulations that will punish every American who dares to flip on a light switch, drive a car, or buy an American product. Americans simply don’t want this backdoor national energy tax that will drive up energy and manufacturing costs and destroy jobs in our states and local communities.”

He is fully in favor of the radicals running amok at EPA and other agencies (NLRB et.al.), because he himself is a radical.
Someday the fog will clear for you. -
j_crazyconsidering companies are spending up to $56,000,000 for the right to drill on 1 block, this is a good thing for the US government.

Fab1bI agree with this for once I was happy to see this

Shane FalcoIts a pitifully political stunt!
Sorry, but this won't buy my vote! You can keep your political bone and shove it squarely where the sun don't shine! -

I agree, until they start to drill, I don't believe a word of it. The environmental wackos will never allow this.Shane Falco wrote: Its a pitifully political stunt!

Kinda like you and your bitchy Republicans buddies are doing with the Health Care Bill??QuakerOats wrote: Where is the outrage from the radical environmentalists??

Something else that pisses me off about you Quaker...you insinuate people who voted for and supports President Obama are stupid and try to make yourself out to be better than us. ptown is the most knowledgeable and smartest political poster here,he knows his stuff. And for you to say that he has a fog over his eyes because he voted for President Obama makes you seem stupid. -
WriterbuckeyeYou need to sack up, gibby, or give up taking part in political discussions. Your skin is way too thin.
As for comparing drilling to the health care bill...can you say apples to dump trucks?
The health care bill was a massive government takeover of one-sixth of our economy. It is a massive entitlement program many of us simply believe will put us close (or over) the tipping point of deficit spending, and bankrupt this country.
Drilling for oil in our own country is about (1) creating energy independence and (2) potentially creating thousands of jobs, all of which will ADD money to government coffers instead of taking it out.
Hardly comparable in any way, shape or form. -

No, not kinda like ................. The facts are the environmentalists and the Sierra club literally file a lawsuit against EVERY new energy facility being built in order to tie up the projects in court for years to serve their own radical agenda. You are free to check that out.
The health care bill has been deemed unconstitutional by a number of States Attorney Generals who are proceeding with the legal recourse. They are supported not by a thin little minority of vocal radicals (as in environmental suits), but by the significant majority of the entire population who does not want a bill that permitted 219 socialist leaning congresspeople to sieze 1/6th of the nation's economy. Surely you see the differences.
As for p-twon, he indeed is an intelligent and articulate individual. There are many intelligent individuals who support obama, but if there reason for doing so is because they think he is NOT a radical liberal then yes, they are mistaken, in my humble opinion, as evidenced by his record, actions, and affiliations. -
derek bomarI would have liked to see him open up the Pacific Coast too...but this is indeed good news. Let's call a spade a spade and all just agree that this was a good thing (could've been better I'll give you that but cmon, it's a good move). If we can't even acknowledge when someone from across the isle does something we (for the most part) agree with, we are totally fucked in terms of partisanship.
-
ptown_trojans_1Agreed derek. A good first step that all sides can say it was a good thing.
-

I'll agree it's a good thing from the President, but if any drilling actually gets done, I'll sell my soul.ptown_trojans_1 wrote: Agreed derek. A good first step that all sides can say it was a good thing. -
WriterbuckeyeIt's a nice first step, and one that should be followed by expanding drilling in other areas, including off the California coast, in Alaska, and the development of shale oil technologies that coincide with a ramped up plan to create more nuclear power plants.
Any and all energy possibilities on-deck so that America becomes energy independent sooner rather than later.
