  I'll refrain from going down the "flip-flop" or "political expediency" roads, simply because I so strongly agree with this decision. Well done, Bam.

  A good, pragmatic move. He looked at the data before him and made the correct choice.
  Now, of course, this is just one part of a whole new agenda on energy. That includes, natural gas, nuclear, solar, wind, etc.

  He makes some very valid points, but IMO it's a mistake to at least acknowledge this as a decent first step. My dream would be for him to step down next January and let Cantor run the show, but I don't imagine that's happening.

  Don't have a link yet, but apparently this is far more limited than it need be -- so it's looking more like a token effort than a real chance to make a difference in US energy supplies and job creation.

  I see it the other way. The main reason I voted for him was I saw the pragmatic approach he would take to not just foreign policy, but to other issues as well. I never bought into he was a radical, and so far in his administration, it has been the typical liberal Presidency, with a pragmatic foreign policy.

  A) opens up Alaska and the Pacific Coast to drilling
  
  B) dismantles, shreds, vetoes, whatever, the Cap and Trade legislation. Whatever benefits may come from this recent decision, Cap and Trade will more than undo.

  As for comparing drilling to the health care bill...can you say apples to dump trucks?
  
  The health care bill was a massive government takeover of one-sixth of our economy. It is a massive entitlement program many of us simply believe will put us close (or over) the tipping point of deficit spending, and bankrupt this country.
  
  Drilling for oil in our own country is about (1) creating energy independence and (2) potentially creating thousands of jobs, all of which will ADD money to government coffers instead of taking it out.
  
  Hardly comparable in any way, shape or form.

  No, not kinda like ................. The facts are the environmentalists and the Sierra club literally file a lawsuit against EVERY new energy facility being built in order to tie up the projects in court for years to serve their own radical agenda. You are free to check that out.
  
  The health care bill has been deemed unconstitutional by a number of States Attorney Generals who are proceeding with the legal recourse. They are supported not by a thin little minority of vocal radicals (as in environmental suits), but by the significant majority of the entire population who does not want a bill that permitted 219 socialist leaning congresspeople to sieze 1/6th of the nation's economy. Surely you see the differences.
  
  As for p-twon, he indeed is an intelligent and articulate individual. There are many intelligent individuals who support obama, but if there reason for doing so is because they think he is NOT a radical liberal then yes, they are mistaken, in my humble opinion, as evidenced by his record, actions, and affiliations.

  I would have liked to see him open up the Pacific Coast too...but this is indeed good news. Let's call a spade a spade and all just agree that this was a good thing (could've been better I'll give you that but cmon, it's a good move). If we can't even acknowledge when someone from across the isle does something we (for the most part) agree with, we are totally fucked in terms of partisanship.

  It's a nice first step, and one that should be followed by expanding drilling in other areas, including off the California coast, in Alaska, and the development of shale oil technologies that coincide with a ramped up plan to create more nuclear power plants.
  
  Any and all energy possibilities on-deck so that America becomes energy independent sooner rather than later.
