Bush Speechwriter David Frum says Republican Party has been hijacked

Paladin^^^^^^^^^^^^^ But they will and the law will become wildly popular. Watch future polls .

I'd bet a surprising percentage of Americans know at least several items included in the bill that, by themselves, make the whole thing wrong in their eyes.Footwedge wrote:

It's why you have such a high percentage of folks not liking this piece of crap. -

dwccrewHell, Bush was the beginning of the hijacking of the party. Well, not really, but the Repubs have been hijacked for a very long time and they are no different than the Dems in the sense that they want big government spending, just on different programs. For Repubs it was Homeland Security and military spending. For Dems it's social entitlement programs. Both are wrong and both should be eliminated from Washington by voting them out.
I'd vote for Harrison Ford.cbus4life wrote: They need to get Harrison Ford to tell those hijackers to get off their plane.
To me, that's both parties. I haven't been brainwashed by either party into thinking they know what's right and to believe they are being truthful.Paladin wrote: Keep it up. I like that the Rs think all is well with their party, their positions and their plank. Can't ask for a better chance than to run against the party of no, no ideas, no tolerance, and no truth.
Yea, but only 70% of the time.tk421 wrote:

Well apparently a few at least thought they knew. A bunch of bricks were thrown through windows of Congressmen's offices today.Cleveland Buck wrote:

I wonder if any of those bricks were smeared with shit to underscore the anger at the passing this socialist piece of shit legislation?Footwedge wrote:A bunch of bricks were thrown through windows of Congressmen's offices today.
Broken windows will be the least of congressional Dem worries when November rolls around. -
WriterbuckeyeIt will be interesting to see if they can prove it was people upset by the health care bill who threw those bricks -- or whether this is being staged by said congressmen to elicit sympathy because they are getting hammered by voters back home.
Wouldn't be the first time something like that has happened. -
IggyPride00Frum has been fired from the AEI (American Enterprise Institute). Supposedly it had nothing to do with his column, but the timing seems suspicious.
I suspect party elders did not take kindly to his having presented the hc defeat as being the GOP's "waterloo" (to quote Demint) and worst defeat since the 1960's. -

Yea someone is going to make up a story about getting bricks thrown at them because voters are mad at them. PaladinThe freak show continues. At least they are eating their own. The moderates are gone and now they turn and eat their own Right Wing people.
Good riddance. -
stlouiedipalmaI'm disappointed in the rationalization going on here from our right-leaning friends. Rather than condemn these kind of actions, they seem to justify them without actually saying so.

fish82Don't throw bricks at the radical liberals. Bad...bad right wing extremists!
Oddly enough...still waiting on the same thing from the left for beating the shit out of the peaceful town hall protesters this past summer.
I'm equally disappointed that Steny Hoyer can't seem to get the sand cleaned out of his vagina...been awhile since I've seen such whining from people that actually won the battle. I'd hate to see what you people would be like had you actually lost. -
HitsRusThe elitist left just doesn't get it. Their healthcare plan is good for America! Just ask them.
So when they ram thru their elitist agenda, they can't understand that some people get upset. The back room deals, the outright bribe's, taking congressmen for a ride on Air Force 1, strongarm Chicago style politcal tactics, ignoring the concerns of a lot of passionate people...none of that upsets them. But a few bricks get thrown and they get self righteous.
Maybe they need to look in the mirror and acknowledge their own complicity.
No way in hell do I condone violence , either implicitly or explicitly.
But really, if you don't want to deal with it, then stop doing the things that really, really piss people off...like taking their money and giving it to someone else, telling them how to live their lives, or jeopardising the their economic well being by irresponsible fiscal policy. -
jhay78Eric Cantor made a good point today. Political leaders deal with threats all the time, they just don't exploit them for political purposes. Any violence or threat of such is wrong whenever it happens.
The danger of what the Dems are doing is saying, "See, people who don't like health care are violent, racist, and out of control wackos." Then again they'll exploit anything if it accomplishes their agenda (lady with breast cancer, kid whose mom died recently, poor people in general, etc.). -

What's awesome is that this health care bill pisses people off more than the Iraq War, the continuing Afghanistan War, the Patriot Act, passing tax cuts while increasing spending, and letting the financial system get to the point it did pisses them off.HitsRus wrote: The elitist left just doesn't get it. You think it's more likely that congressmen are throwing bricks at themselves then it is that people that share your same mindset about this bill might be over reacting a bit?Writerbuckeye wrote: It will be interesting to see if they can prove it was people upset by the health care bill who threw those bricks -- or whether this is being staged by said congressmen to elicit sympathy because they are getting hammered by voters back home.

His latest diatribe was just frosting on the cake. He no longer wanted to be asociated with the views of the AEI or the Nationsl Review. -

Yes indeed...this is quite remarkable. Getting frothy mouthed and throwing bricks through windows on a bill nobody has read or understands......but nary a peep on the human slaughter in Mesopotamia. It is quite remarkable to me as well.I Wear Pants wrote:

Not that remarkable at all. People only get engaged when they perceive the policies of their government directly affect them. There was no direct tax to pay for the war, no rationing, no official declaration of war, and no military draft (one of the top reasons the Vietnam War protesters got engaged in opposition).Footwedge wrote: Yes indeed...this is quite remarkable. You also can't discount the anger many felt after 9/11. I was ready to lay waste to the whole Middle East. Prior to 9/11 there was nary a peep on the human slaughter that had been going on in Mesopotamia prior to our involvement. The war in Iraq is over. There is no organized resistance left to fight us.
Your insinuation that bad foreign policy by the federal government somehow nullifies peoples opposition to their perceived view of bad domestic policy acts by the same government doesn't hold water. You can't fault people for taking action when they feel government policy affects them directly.
