    Illegal Immigration
    Health Care Reform
    Tax and Trade
    Gay Marriage
    Withdrawal from the Mideast
    Global Warming
    Gun Control

I'm done debating any of these issues. There's nothing I can do about it and the leftie's control the government, country, the schools and the media. I am going to start taking the Bob Knight approach to all of these agendas.... if I am going to be raped I must as well sit back and enjoy it.

If you can't beat them. I'm going to start living off the government, that's what they want, I might as well take advantage.

    Boo fricking hoo.

If they aren't supposed to be here to begin with, then they should leave. If their family loves them as they should, they'll follow.

Enforce the laws we have and secure the borders.

Don't just throw your hands in the air and say let them all in, whether it's incrementally or not.
    DITTO...

Oh crap...Now the lefties will accuse me of taking my marching orders from Rush Limbaugh.

When an adult breaks the law and is given a prison sentence, does this not break up families? Since when have we based our enforcement of law on breaking up families? As for breaking up families, I am sure family members legally US citizens would be able to accompany their illegal loved ones out of the country if they so desire.

End the anchor baby law. At least one parent of child must be U.S. citizen, that would stop these families quick. We have women coming across the border to have babies in U.S. hospitals knowing their child will be a U.S. citizen.

Arm all border patrol officers with machine guns and plant land mines totally around our border.

You know, this is a good point that you made, Spark!

As far as "cheap labor" goes -

Yeah, illegals to get paid under the table. Yeah, they take the jobs that many Americans do not want.
But let's think about the what ifs for a second.
What if we did get rid of them? We need to step back and look at bigger picture then. Millions of people would have to have total lifestyle changes, price changes, cost of living changes. Lots of business owners are going to have to pay out higher wages, then pass that change onto the customers. Unions will move in, no doubt, on alot of those jobs. So, there goes an even higher employee wage (through higher payouts and/or medical, vacations, etc.) The consumer has to pay for that also.
Countless jobs that the illegals have now include: farming, fisheries, restaurant, landscaping, construction, sanitary, just to know a few. That's a healthy chunk of economics right there in virtually every state.

I said this story before, but I think it bears recounting, of something that I've witnessed firsthand.

Years ago while opening up a restaurant in Ca., put out the ads and the word, when the time came, that we were now hiring dishwasers.
white people who applied - 0
black people who applied - 0
anybody without an accent who applied - 0
Guess the job was beneath them, eh?

That left us with.....? That's right, Mexicans.

The process of sifting through who had the correct work visa's was a nightmare, but let me just say, I had a lawyer friend who helped me go through that, and that's a whole other topic in and of itself.

Point being, it's nice to fantasize about "getting rid of them" and all that, but honestly, who's going to take alot of those jobs I mentioned above?
How many Americans do you know that would be willing to work "below their standard"? ... my guess, not very many. Otherwise, the government wouldn't be worrying about extending unemployment yet again.

Personally, I don't want to turn anybody away that wants to become an American in all ways. There's lots of them around the world. They are going through the proper channels, they are waiting, and it's unfair that we have millions of line-cutters who don't want to adopt the American life. All they want is to work fast, and send their money back to their country/families fast. Every year or two they sneak back across the border to visit with their families and then sneak right back over again.

It's a catch 22 really. This is not something that can be hastily done. It is going to take time, effort and a whole lot of thinking.

The very main reason that illegal immigrants continue to come to this country is simple economics. They value the money that they can make here more than they value the dangerous trip+the money they make in Mexico. It would be a waste of time, energy, and money to round them all up and deport them because they will just come right on back, not to mention it would be almost impossible to execute a plan on that large of scale. What needs to be done is to make it more expensive for them to work here than to stay in Mexico. So make a "special" tax that taxes illegals enough to make it cheaper to live in Mexico. Once they figure out that they can make more money in Mexico, they'll either go back or not come at all. The businesses know more than not who they are paying illegally so it will be their job to report them so the tax can be collected and if they don't, fine them.

I have no issues with Mexicans coming to the United States to do the menial jobs that Americans hooked on our generous welfare system refuse to do. Is it too much to ask that it be done LEGALLY?

Step 1 Dig out the Rio Grand!

Step 2 put dirt from the Rio Grand in New Orleans, thus raising it above sea level!

Step 3 Go to Florida capture all the alligaters you can find and move them to the newly refurbished Rio Grand!

I have now solved three problems, illgal immigration, flooding in N.O. and the over population of gaters in Fla.

    NEXT?!

Would it ever be possible to have criminals who are sitting in prison getting fat to take some of these jobs -farming, fisheries, landscaping, sanitary that are currently being done by illegals. They could work like chain gangs doing things that no one else wants to do. It can't be considered inhumane because people currently do it as a job. The companies having the work done could subcontract out the work to the prisons which would help keep cost about what they are now and also let the prisoners earn their keep. The way I see it the illegals aren't as vital as some say.

Why would anyone want to work below their standard when the govt will bail them out and give them the welfare/Obamacare hammock to lounge in?

The path we're headed down may indeed solve the immigration problem: After Obamacare, Cap & Tax, and Immigration "Reform" have been implemented for a few years, America will be a disaster and no one will want to come here anymore.

I will say this, and it has to do with illegal immigration, but not specifically. I believe that immigration is a good thing. The more people we have, the bigger base for innovation we have and the longer we'll stand. More people here = more mouths to feed, more consumers to buy products, more land being utilized. There are lots of good things about immigration. However, with the current welfare state we have, immigration is no longer feasible. Sadly, those who seek freedom and oppurtunities can no longer seek it here because of our current policies. We should encourage hard workers and freedom-lovers to come here all the time.

Big difference between real immigration and illegal immigration. One helped make our nation great- the other is sucking the life out of us.

    I agree with this 100%!

People have risked their lives for years just to have the opportunities that abound here. If they can't get here legally, they attempt to get here any way they can. People who want a new start and a chance to succeed must not think that coming here is infeasible. Check the immigration statistics. I think they will bear me out.

If we had sent illegal immigrants back to Mexico in body bags 40 years ago, we wouldn't have this problem today.
  • Swamp Fox
Desperate people do desperate things. America has always been a beacon light of freedom and opportunity for millions of oppressed people around the world. I don't think the body bag mentality of some would deter people who were wanting a better life for themselves and their children from taking the risk. I don't think we really have any idea how difficult things are for a number of people around this world of ours. Thankfully, our government to this point has not adopted the "body bag" solution. To me that would not exactly be in line with what we profess to be or would want to be. I think we should not allow illegal immigrants in to our country, nor should we pay for their needs in any way unless they are either full-fledged legal citizens or well on their way through the citizenship process. We should not however, even in jest, vote for sending these people back home "in body bags". At least I wouldn't.

Illegal immigrants "only here for a better life" kills local rancher. http://www.azstarnet.com/news/local/border/article_32642381-6314-53b4-aff1-570dbd1d6834.html
The government knows about the smuggling but does nothing. Our border patrol is a joke, and when innocent Americans start dieing because of it, it is time to do something. If not, I hope the citizens of border towns start taking it into their own hands.

Seems like this has been going on forever, but it is just crazy that not one President or Congress have been able to do anything to stop the problem.

Why is that? Bush didn't, Obama has not. Seems like they don't even seriously want to touch the issue.

    Rather confused.

Again, I've never ever been against immigration. This country should welcome immigrants with open arms - it's who WE are.

I have problems with two (2) things:

    1. Illegals cutting into the line in front of others who are trying to get here honestly and take the correct steps to do it.

    2. Illegals who do NOT want to become an American. Instead they sneak over, make their money, sneak back to give the money to their families and then sneak back over again. Those people have no intention of buying a house, paying taxes (not talking about consumer taxes). The vast majority of these people don't even have a street address or BO addy. They live 20 people per 3 rooms.
