Maybe we need a new thread entitled "The Daily Encroachment", and we can use it to post the daily-liberal-infringement-on-your-rights aticles as they occur. It appears THE PEOPLE will have to be the watchdog of the liberals in government since the media won't do their job. -

Yes, because they didn't propose a bill to ban salt in New York. The level of denial by the left is outstanding. Keep calling everyone else delusional though.cbus4life wrote:

cbus4lifeNot denying that, but shit like this gets proposed all the time, from both sides. Nothing will come of it. Nothing new. Not going to take away your liberties. And, not to mention, half of the stuff he posts is easily disproved, i.e. the basis for this actual post regarding fishermen. The link posted earlier does a good job of refuting it.
I've yet to see any liberties infringed upon, nor do i see it happening anytime soon. I mean, you might call the healthcare bill an infringement on liberties, but i don't see it that way. But, feel free to disagree, i'll give you that.
But, i've not seen anything else to lead me to believe that i am really going to, realistically, have anything taken away.
I keep hearing, "we've elected these people, they are going to do it, the radical socialists are going to take away our liberties," yet i'm still waiting, and waiting, and waiting, for that to happen. I've looked into these accusations, read both sides of a lot of these debates, and have come to the conclusion that it is largely fear mongering on both sides of the aisle. They'll land somewhere in the middle, with nothing significant happening. -

I'm not trying to be "attractive". I'm just calling out the far right shills on their ridiculous "chicken little" bullshit. A few minutes and a couple of google searches is all it took to show this thread topic for what it is...unfounded, paranoid rantings of people who will do anything to discredit Obama and the Dems...truth be damned.
People don't need to make stuff up to rip on Obama and the Dems right now. They have provided plenty of ammo without distorting the truth...I'll be the first to admit it. I'll be glad to criticize the current administration when they deserve it. On this issue, they don't. That was the point of my first post. -

Publicizing? Jesus, had QO not posted the link, I never would have even known about it. It's received virtually no play whatsoever. Now has it been publicized by the righties on this board? Sure...but I think we'd agree that doesn't really count.Gobuckeyes1 wrote:

To insinuate that the GOP is trying to make hay with this on a national level is pretty disingenuous. -
I Wear PantsWell it was publicized on ESPN's website. Probably has no connection to the GOP but I'm willing to bet that the author is particularly right leaning.
Again, I can't see the GOP having any hand in saying "publish an article saying that Obama wants your bait caster" but I could see an ESPN guy viewing this as an opportunity to discredit Obama. -

From the article: "Despite these facts the conservative world was quick to jump on the story and millions of their loyal followers have subsequently believed the conspiracy theory. Gateway Pundit, Michelle Malkin, and Rush Limbaugh have all in some way pushed the "Obama to ban fishing" story. Today Beck finally joined the bandwagon."

When people like Beck and Limbaugh pick up a story, I would consider that publicizing. They reach tens of millions of people every day. -
CenterBHSFanI don't consider Beck/Limbaugh to be news.
This has yet to be mentioned on my local news. Anybody else? -

They push stories about the conservative agenda to more people than your local news could fathom.CenterBHSFan wrote: I don't consider Beck/Limbaugh to be news.

Similar to how Olbermann and the like push more stories about the liberal agenda to more people than that same local news could dream.
Whether you consider it "news" or not has nothing to do with the fact that it was widely publicized by people who have an extreme amount of influence in the mindset of the average conservative thinker/voter. -
Gobuckeyes1
Exactly. Who said anything about news? Publicity and news aren't the same thing. When people as influential and powerful as Beck and Limbaugh push a story, millions of people hear it. That's definitely publicity.I Wear Pants wrote:

CenterBHSFanSo I take it that that's a "no" from both of you? hahaha, j/k
I get what you're saying. And that's what my point was. Publicity and news are not the same thing.

I do read the Wall Street Journal and the NY Times (Times only on Tuesday when I can pick it up for free at school) and I haven't seen it brought up by either. -
Swamp FoxUnless some of our number have very bad eyesight, I fail to see the need for the darkened emphasis used when talking about the "classics". It seems to me that every time Conservatives want to make a point they go immediately into an "overkill" approach. I tend to agree with "Gobuckeyes1". Common sense and rationality generally proves very effective. I have fished also and I see no reason why that won't continue. Liberals sometimes engage in this "overkill " nonsense also, but it just seems that it happens much more often when Conservatives respond. It's that old belief that the side that uses the largest and darkest print automatically wins the argument. I always thought that it was facts and common sense that won arguments??
-
CenterBHSFanWell I think we can all admit that sometimes common sense and rationality can lead to apathy. Which really got us to this point to begin with. If people want to get fired up and make some noise over certain issues, I don't necessarily consider that to be a bad thing. And the people making noise - I don't think that they lack common sense or rationality. Although, there are radicals on both sides of every fence but they are not the majority.

Until now, I have never seen anyone attempt to make a case AGAINST common sense and rationality.
The radicals on both sides of the fence have hijacked our discourse, leaving the overwhelming majority of the people in this country standing around, scratching their head and wondering WTF...we don't need more sensationalism, generalizations, scare tactics, and name calling. We need the moderate majority in this country to reject ridiculous partisan nonsense and find practical, common sense solutions to our problems. -

AHAHAHA!!! Neither do I! Oh brother, that'll learn me from typing from a left-over-drunk!
I knew what I wanted to convey, but as we see, it didn't come out too well
Let me pull a redo:
(ahem)
While alot of people look at possible legislation with common sense and rationality, alot of those same people have the "wait and see" attitudes or they'll say "that will never happen to us/here" that becomes habitual which leads to apathy. Which really got us to this point to begin with.
If people want to get fired up and make some noise over certain issues, I don't necessarily consider that to be a bad thing. And the people making noise - I don't think that they lack common sense or rationality. It means that they're paying attention.
