Largest Stimulus project in Ohio?

  $150 Million for a bypass on Rt. 33 going around Nelsonville. Funny thing is the business communtity was opposssed to this idea. Oh, BTW, this also happens to be Gov. Stricklands home district. I posted this 3 times in Politics but each time it never made it. Ive been banned from politiics forum? Ive hardly ever posted there.

  This is but a microcosm of how the democrat party is using the "stimulus" bill as a slush fund providing a kickback to supporters of the BHO thug-ocracy.
  
  With democrat Gov. Ted Strickland at the helm, BHO turns Ohio blue in 2008. Strickland's reward? ...funding for a pet project in his home district that his business constituents do not support.
  
  The deeper consequences of building a road that bypasses local businesses are that the small-town businesses will fade away, ultimately resulting in a population in town who will struggle to survive and seek the refuge of federal entitlements for survival.
  
  63's typo in spelling the word "community" as "comuntity" could be shrugged off if it weren't so Freudian a mistake.
  
  BHO would like nothing better than to use the "stimulus" money to guarantee that small-town America is dependent on the federal teet.
  
  I'm not even going to go into the union jobs that will be "saved or created" with the building of the by-pass.

  I agree 63. BHO is blatantly notorious in saying things that, once implemented, are the exact opposite of what people believed they would be. It is a shame that the fine people of Nelsonville seemingly are destined to reap the ravages of this administration purely for the political gain of one party's determination to eradicate individualism and implement socialism.

  I see your point, but I will rebut with this: I have been driving through Nelsonville for years, and have never thought to stop at any of the shops. I have however, specifically gone to Nelsonville to purchase items. The bypass will allow me to go around there much quicker (which is a huge plus), but I will still make the trips to Nelsonville to shop at the same stores I did before. I live 25 minutes from Nelsonville, and it's a win/win for me.

  It was okay to by-pass Logan and lancaster under "what party" but not to by-pass nelsonville under this guy

  This bypass has been in the works for years. This is not a spur of the moment thing.

  Indeed, this project is nothing new. It was in the works for YEARS. Way before any 'stimulus' was needed or the economy was even shot to hell.

  Actually you are wrong.
  
  Only half of Athens County is covered by the 6th District (Strickland's old district), and it would be the other half.
  
  Nelsonville has not been in the 6th since the last redistricting (2002)
  Nelsonville is in the 18th District, which is now Zack Space's district (he took over for Bob Ney).
  
  Strickland covered them from 1993-1994, 1997-2002
  Ney covered them from 2002-2006
  Space has covered them since 2007.
  
  If you're going to blame Strickland, you have to figure Ney's corrupt ass was robbing people blind for it too.

  Phase 1 has been going for a few years now. Phases 2 and 3 weren't going to be funded until like 2013 and 2015 until the stimulus fast tracked them back to the original schedule

  Bingo...Those traveling through Nelsonville now usually aren't going to stop at the local businesses unless they are specifically coming to the town for that purpose. The everyday people that are traveling from Athens to Columbus aren't the ones that keep the town afloat...It's the people that come and will continue to come to Nelsonville with a specific purpose.

  I understand the project was started years ago. My question was regarding the 150 Million being used from the Federal Stimulus monies. This is THE most costly road project in the state and its in Gov's old backyard. Coincidence?

  They have traffic jams at all hours the sun is up because of the traffic volume bring choked down to 2 lanes with all of the side streets and stops.

  Yeah..traffic can be horrendous in Nelsonville sometimes. A bypass is definitely needed.
