I'd even add the 1998 Rumsfeld Commission on ballistic missiles. (Read parts of it today for work)
Seriously though ptown....what did the 9/11 Commission tell us that we pretty much didn't already know, or at least have a pretty good idea about?

A Department of Homeland Security to collect and establish better links between local, state and federal intelligence officials and first responders. (A new idea)

A new Director of National Intelligence, who will oversee all the U.S. intel agencies, replacing the head of the CIA as top intel chief. (A new idea)

Better coordination between the FBI and CIA on counter terrorism. (Been said for years)

Also, restructure Congressional committees (Still not done.)

C'mon man, get with the program.

Obama did it, so it's bad. :)
You really must be young, or you'd know (for certain) that these commissions or panels NEVER lead to anything constructive. Unless you consider generating a lot of hot air to be constructive.

These folks are ALREADY in a position to do something they know needs to be done. Why do we need yet another group discussion on the matter?

    A.
    Monumental.
    Waste.
    Of.
    Time.
    AMWOT?

I'll give ya the DNI. DHS was formed well before the 9/11 Commission though...by the Homeland Security Act of 2002.

You ever think about running for office? You seem to have all of the answers to everything...it's all so neat and clean and absolute in your world.

AMWOT? Maybe I'm not smart enough to figure it out...

Just as an FYI, here's what Bam had to say about McCain's idea for just such a stupid commission in 2008:
Just today, Senator McCain offered up the oldest Washington stunt in the book – you pass the buck to a commission to study the problem. But here’s the thing – this isn’t 9/11. We know how we got into this mess. What we need now is leadership that gets us out. I’ll provide it, John McCain won’t, and that’s the choice for the American people in this election.

    Oops. ;)
