I thought all mainstream media was liberal?
This is most definitely not a liberal move.
discuss. -
Al BundyCongrats to CBS for showing some ethics.
-
dwccrewI think you mean Tebow's pro-life message, not pro-abortion.
-
ptown_trojans_1CBS has been known, since the "Wardrobe malfunction" has been pretty conservative on many issues related to the Super Bowl.
-
WriterbuckeyeCorporate advertising decisions have ZIP to do with newsroom decisions made by assignment editors and reporters.
Your premise is flawed.
What people here discuss all the time is liberal bias in the mainstream MEDIA (as in news media) and not advertising.
Some liberals love to point out that news organizations are businesses so they must be inherently conservative (Republican).
Again, a flawed premise.
So long as an operation is making money -- corporate will stay out of the newsroom almost entirely (I say almost since there are exceptions).
So far as the CBS decisions goes: I am a free marketer. I would hope they'd run both advertisements and take the money; and let people watch or turn it off. -
believerThis topic has already been explored at length on the allegedly "Serious Business" forum: Seriously?

cbus4lifeStill pretty lame that they don't allow it, but i completely agree with Writer, on this.
I will never, ever understand the homosexual controversy and arguments that ensue in this country.
Abortion, yes. Gay marriage...give it up, people. -

WriterbuckeyeGod forbid Americans should be able to decide for themselves by watching or turning the channel.

I still don't believe the gay matchmaking company could pay for it. Regardless, CBS is in the business of making money. Maybe they figured out that the backlash for having a gay commercial would be worse then the money they could pay them to run the ad?Writerbuckeye wrote: God forbid Americans should be able to decide for themselves by watching or turning the channel. -
Al BundyRun gay commercials during the World Cup if you want, but don't run them during the Super Bowl.

Captain Cavalier

Red_Skin_PrideI'd call it a real cock-block.

Al Bundy
It means that the percent of gay people watching soccer is much higher than the percent of gay people watching football.I Wear Pants wrote:

stlouiedipalmaEveryone knows that football is a "man's sport". Soccer, well, maybe not so manly. After all, who wants to watch guys run around the field in shorts and fall down when they get kicked in the shin? And the officials hold up the little yellow and red cards to signify when someone has been bad.
Now how ridiculous is that description? Futbol players are well-conditioned athletes who perform without benefit of lengthy breaks and switching between offense and defense. I only point out that there are probably folks out there who would equate soccer with homosexuality.
Seriously, I think this is all too much over nothing. Let the free market and the viewers decide. -

Don't forget that they don't have damned commercial breaks in soccer either.stlouiedipalma wrote: Everyone knows that football is a "man's sport". Soccer, well, maybe not so manly.
