President Question Time in front of the GOP

  • ptown_trojans_1
Very, very interesting dialogue and banter back forth today from Obama's visit to the GOP in Baltimore.

Good stuff on back and forth between the President and members of the GOP. Hopefully, this sort of thing continues and actually policy can come from it.

    The video is entertaining.

i am about halfway through the transcripts and it just seems like he isnt even listening to the questions, either that or completely refuses to think he may have done something wrong or made a bad choice with the stimulus package. we understand unemployment wasnt going to turn around the first couple months he was in office, but its been a year now and it's still rising. he doesnt seem to acknowledge that. you would think after the democrat's stimulus plan didnt work, maybe he would consider giving the republicans a shot with their plan, but that doesnt even sound like an option with him. what does he think he has to lose haha?

If you were watching it on TV, it is perceived to have been a good day for the President.

The fact that MSNBC is running a 2 hour special replay of it with commentary, when 23 minutes into Hannity's show he has yet to even mention the event took place (and Fox cut away from coverage altogether with half an hour left today) seems to indicate the President did well for himself as had he bombed it would have been leading on Fox and buried on NBC.

As a whole it was compelling TV, and I wish we could see more of it on a regular basis.

I'm not the least bit interested in what comes out of Barack's mouth. I'm interested in what he does.

^^^This and I have a hunch most of the Repubs he was lecturing feel the same sentiment.
  • Prescott
I turned Olberman on just to see how his show would handle this. From what I watched, he continued to support the President and bash the Republicans. I guess he didn't get the President's message.

The guy who made the ludicrous statement that Obama spends in one month what a Republican spends in 1 year..ought to be gitmoed and wasterboarded for such irresponsible blather.

Obama curbstomped the little fool. What a shame that we have House members and Congresman that say shit like that on a national medium.

Finally got around to reading the rest of it and wow, Congressman Chaffetz really had some balls as a freshman and called the President out on some of the promises he made and Obama really gave some lame excuses, or atleast i think.

Obama kind of reminded me of Baghdad Bob when he was saying there arent any American tanks in Baghdad, even though you could almost see the tanks driving down the street behind him. i wonder if Obama even believes what he is telling people right now.

I'm sure he does. He's become so adept at lying and spewing nonsense that he believes every word of what he says....and so do his lap dogs in the press.

I guess he learned how to spew shit from the Shit Master: BHO himself. Imitation is the greatest form of flattery.

Footwedge: The congressman did not say that. There is plenty to complain about what the Republicans say without misquoting them.

Obama says they need to work together,,translated " Do as I say or I will make your lives a living hell"

I thought it was interesting as it was the first time cameras were allowed in the event. I also thought it did look like British PM question time. I do hope this sort of thing happens more often. Whether you like the President or not, you gotta give me some credit in at least going to event, taking questions and admitting mistakes.

Oh come on, if you truly believe the conservatives haven't presented a plan then you are drinking the kool aid.

They have offered a plan that includes tort reform, insurance companies competing across state lines, mandates on pre-existing conditions, dropping patients when they get sick, etc.

They basically have pretty much everything BUT a big government overhaul/spending spree in their plan.

Its a plan that takes a "scalpul" as BHO loves to use and fixes parts of the health care industry that needs fixed but doesn't hit it with a sledge hammer that is the dems plan.

I will admit, that was the best I've seen BHO. If he carries through with some of that stuff he said, he'll have gained some ground in my mind.

However, after his crap State of the Union just 2 days ago, I don't expect much of what he said to the GOP to be true.

the stimulus plans they have presented to Obama and Obama admits he has read.

its also funny how Obama keeps saying "my doctors and my economists i talk to say this and that blah blah". A) who are these people? B) maybe Mr. President, you need to find some new doctors and economists to consult with.

I agree with this part of your comment. This was the Obama that I voted for.

If anyone hasn't watched or read this, I strongly recommend it. It's probably the best Q & A involving a President that I have ever seen. Both sides were respectful, but the questions were good and tough and most of them were answered thoroughly. We could really use more political dialogue like this...and less of the Limbaugh/Olbermann/Hannity/Maddow type name calling and sensationalism.

One part of this that would be garnering huge headlines if the politics were reversed and a Republican president had openly admitted such a lie...Of course, I don't expect anyone in the Jurassic Media to call out Obama for this.

so why hasnt he called anyone out for that yet? it kind of goes back to his answer on earmarks and the stimulus bill. he said he wouldnt have earmarks, but when they were in the stimulus bill, he signed it anyway saying that he didnt want to fight over it right then. who is to say the same thing wont happen with the health care package and about the provisions that were snuck in? he'll just say, "well this bill took 2 or 3 years, i dont want to send it back now to fix these provisions that we said we wouldnt have, so this will have to do."

A lie is a lie. This was a whopper -- and he's admitting something was true after his administration blasted Republicans and others (remember the tea parties) for SAYING there were provisions that would not allow them to keep their own doctors. They called those questioning that fact all but liars.

If the politics on this were reversed, we'd not hear the end of it -- but this guy is basically allowed to lie at will because the media love him.

I was talking about a stimulus plan. I didn't ever hear of a radically different stimulus plan by the GOP and thought that it passed with pretty good Repub and Democrat support (just how I remember if I'm wrong tell me but please don't eat me).

As to the health care, I agree with you that this bill isn't very good and that tort reform and the other things you mentioned are needed. Despite hating people that constantly point to the people who proceeded them I can't help but wonder why the GOP didn't do anything about health care when they had the presidency for 8 years. (There was something they did with medicare if I remember correctly). But it's hard for me to take their assertion that they are the ones with the good of the people in mind when the did nothing about it.

In short, Democrats are being stupid bitches because they try all the wrong ways to get something done and Republicans are assholes because they'd rather just do nothing.

Bush did get passage on Medicare Part D, but got killed and humiliated when he tried to push more reform in 2004-2005. No one, and I mean no one really supported his efforts in 04-05, which were largely alright.

what i think happend was when the Dems took control, they figured they could just bully their way through the voting and that just turned off the republicans. i mean i am sure it goes both ways like the last time the republicans had control, but when one group walks in and tries to do everything there way, of course they arent going to get support from the other group.

Probably because he was about as good at articulating his ideas as JaMarcus Russell is at being an NFL quarterback.
