Racial threat puts Ohio college on alert, on edge

This is messed up. Are there any FreeHuddlers who go to Hocking or have friends who go there? Crap like this bums me out.

I had no idea there was so much racial tension at Hocking College.

I had no idea there was a Hocking College.

It was probably some backward-ass hick that rolled out of the Hocking Hills (or Nelsonville).

Yeah, probably, but the article said the threat has brought simmering racial tensions to the surface. There are simmering racial tensions at Hocking College?

I have always thought that Hocking was a cool place to go to school... get a degree that could get you a job in something environmental.

This racial thing, and people shooting bullets, is just not right..
  • I Wear Pants
One of my best friends (happens to be my cousin) goes there. Disappointing that this is happening.

No ones shot any bullets. So a couple of thugs threw out some racists comments. This is bad. Some moron left a threatening letter. This could be the act of one nutbag. If someone or group wanted to kill others, rarely would thay specify the date of their crime. This is most likely some nutbag crying for attention. The local authorities will handle this accordingly.

Lets not paint Hocking the college of KKK. That is not fair to the students that attend the college.

^^^^^ Or this little blurb about Nelsonville! lol "The campus overwhelms Nelsonville, an economically depressed rural town plagued with heroin addiction and unemployment." Wow, only been to Nelsonville 1 time, but I didnt see any crack heads sitting on the streets holding will work for food signs! lol Talk about stereotyping! Sounds like the Detroit of southern Ohio.

Hocking is a nice 2 year degree campus, a shame that this takes place. I agree, probably just the 1 person looking to get a rise, at least I hope thats all there is.

No place for this in today's college campi.

"Overwhelm" isn't exactly the word I think of when I think of HC and Nelsonville either. It's just a little school on the very corner of town... it's not like the university runs the town by any stretch. When I think of a university that overwhelms the town I think more of OU and Athens.

You close HC, Nelsonville survives (drive through beer sales, gas stations, and fast food will survive on those who remain easily). OU goes away, most businesses will close up in Athens the next day.

Yeah it's nice if you think a college should look like a morgue. An awful place where happiness goes to die. I had the unfortunate experience of crashing there with a friend during a trip to OU and I died a little inside.

A religious fanatic murders 13 people while shouting praise to his God and we are all warned not to judge other members of his religion.

One idiot writes a message on a bathroom wall and too many are quick to label the entire school and community racist.

Wait, are they sure they weren't reading the second Harry Potter book?

    Or The Plains.

Has there ever been a bigger shithole than The Plains? Nothing but AIDS patients and meth dealers.

Hocking county really is in sad shape, Most of the southeast is... Heroin is a problem in that area. They get started on Oxycontin then find out that Heroin is cheaper. Very similar in effects, but heroin is more addictive.

As for the writing on the wall, it has to be taken seriously. The second you don't take one seriously and something actually happens is the second the system has officially failed.

It's definitely rough... I had a storage unit out there for a couple summers.

That's also where Athens HS is, but it's buried way back on the city limits so it's not that bad.

This. Just like many other Ohio colleges. Antioch comes to mind every time I drive through Yellow Springs.

My dad went to Hocking thirty some years ago. This is just a shame.
