Stimulus bust: AP says road projects didn't help create jobs

  • Writerbuckeye
An AP analysis (I have to say I'm shocked they even did this) clearly shows that stimulus dollars spent on road projects have not created jobs or helped the economy in any significant way.

    The hell you say! :dodgy:

Who would have thought this pork barrel of fun wouldn't turn around our economy...oh wait, just about anyone with a lick of economic sense, that's who.

Just a little more ........................................................ change we can believe in.......

Wow that so called study is seriously flawed. I am not surprised you two geniuses fell for it though. Why don't you spend a little time researching the economic multiplier effect instead of just spewing your right wing nut job B.S.

Yeah, I'm sure AP would waste an opportunity to show the stimulus was a massive success.

If you've got some great information to counter this, then post it. Otherwise, save your "right wing" claptrap for the liberal brain cell-challenged brethren you hang out with every day.

Ha hah hah. Hey Bigdogg, you'd better stay on the porch.

Construction unemployment is at 22%, while gov't unemployment is at 3%. Where are those constuction jobs??? hmmmmm

The multiplier effect only works if there is a plan involved, as when you build a bridge connecting two cities that increases commerce, or build a convention center that attracts outside visitors and increases hotel usage. Much of the stimulus seems to be nothing more than patching up state budget shortfalls and engaging in public works projects that are only minorly affecting employment.

This is the 4th year in our house and in our neighborhood over the last 9 months we've seen twice as many street/sewer work than we have in the previous months combined. If the work needs to be done, great it needs to be done. But it doesn't have much of a stimulus effect, and in the short term it actually hurts area businesses when their street is shut down for weeks at a time. This simply was an ill-thought and expensive plan.

Porkulus spending cannot be classified as a plan. It's paying off your political support regardless of how absurd it is.

I'm amazed by how much the left is supported by "grad students" so fervently yet so little by those who actually have real world experience. lol

^^^Eventually even grad students face the real world. There is hope.

About as amazing as you so called right wingers lack of free thinking. Go back and read the article that was cited. He just picked and chose the parts he thinks support his position.

No worries. Now isn't it time for you to run back for more leftist indoctrination in your grad school "think" tank?

    Exactly.

Breaking a bridge just for the purpose of giving people jobs to fix the bridge does NOT improve the economy. I know Obama didn't break any infrastructure, but fixing small time projects with TAX DOLLARS(read: OUR MONEY), is the most backward logic I've ever seen. Glad to see the media coming around on our savior, and showing his true colors.

Since this appears to be the case...although the waste is disastrous; at the very least there ought to be some weight against a "second stimulus"

What makes you think republicans have no free thinking?
Better yet, why would you blanket every republican like that?

What about democrats? Do any of them "lack free thinking"??
    If so, why?

Would you go so far as to say that conservatives lack free thinking, but liberals do not?
    What about independents/libertarians/constitutionalists?

No no....he's absolutely right. I never even wipe my ass without asking Rush or Hannity if I should go front to back or back to front. ;)

Always love the "grad students have no real life experience" BS.

Where do you guys get these opinions?

My grad school experience, and my fiancee, who is at the University of Michigan...lots of folks, who at one point were Engineers, Programmers, etc., etc. Many who have wives, children, etc. Struggling to put themselves through graduate school, going full-time, in one of the best programs in the country, while at the same time supporting a family.

It is almost insulting. I worked full-time as a Research Assistant while attending Graduate School full-time, in order to make a living and keep myself debt free.

Hell, i've even found that in many of the "humanities" areas as well, like English and History. My best friend, also at the University of Michigan, just got his PhD in History, and worked as a linemen for AEP for 10 years before heading back to school. Yep, no real world experience there. Even had to take care of his dad who had a stroke during that time.

Where the hell did you guys spend time in graduate school, if you guys went? I've been in numerous academic institutions, and taught undergraduate courses while i was attending graduate school.

Please, you guys are smarter than this. End the ridiculous rhetoric about the "real world," academia, etc., etc. It is an easy BS talking point to spew, but isn't nearly as cut-and-dry as you make it out to be, ALL THE DAMN TIME.

It is insulting, the assinine generalizations you make. FEAR THE EDuCATED AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
