International Women's Day

    Ideally, I'd hope we're mature enough to avoid taking political pot shots on this (Who am I kidding?), but I'm curious how many people on here did something or said something to recognize women in your life today.

    Contrary to the norms within the US, this is actually a more commonly recognized day in other countries. A good friend of mine from Russia said they make about as big a day out of it as we do Mother's Day. It's just for more than moms.

    Anyone do anything to pay tribute to the great women in their lives?

    What are you even suppose to say to a woman on International Women's Day? "Hey, thanks for doing everything that you do..."?

    No I didn't do anything and I don't think most women care or expect anything.
    I'll hold off on comments about the few women who thought "a day without a woman" was a good idea.

    I didn't expect special treatment, nor did any other woman I know on a personal basis.

    I looked at this day much as I look at Valentine's Day. People shouldn't have to have a special day of the year to feel special. Treat people good and/or deservedly all the time.

    I don't celebrate the day per se, but I have no problem with it. I don't think it can hurt to tell the women in your life you appreciate them for all they do. There are more women than just my mother whom I admire and respect and who have helped me become the person I am today. Do I need a special day to tell them that? No. But I see no harm in it.

    It's not about special treatment. It's about affirming our belief that women are valuable and they deserve equal rights.

    A great start would be a constitutional amendment affirming the legality of abortion for eternity. This is just the start but would go a long way in obtaining equality for all.

    Reminds of the FB meme going around in the last 2 years that said "In 2014, Republicans voted AGAINST equal pay for women" (they actually voted down the Paycheck Fairness Act of 2014, a horribly-written and redundant bill).

    I'd respond, "No, they didn't. Equal pay for women is already the law of the land, and the Equal Pay Act of 1963 is still in effect - therefore the meme is a lie."

    For some reason, the only response would be crickets.

    Every day is International Men's Day, because patriarchy. Or something.

    But, yeah, International Women's Day doesn't bother me at all.

    According to Google it's November 19th. What a week that'll be this year. Men's day on Sunday, Thanksgiving on Thursday, OSU-Michigan on Saturday. God damn.

    Men right have a right to make decisions over their own body. Women had to withstand the assault of Republican TRAP laws to make decisions over their own body.

    We need a constitutional amendment affirm the right to a safe abortion. We do not compromise with the religious whack jobs.

    I went to an event advocating for more women headliners to be booked in the dance/electronic music world. It was pretty cool and free open bar. It was spearheaded by the Black Madonna, Chicago DJ, partnered with Smirnoff and Mixmag.

    I've never been on the "equal outcome" anything. Until we have a constitutional amendment affirming the right to make your own health decisions about your own body, including safe abortions then we will not have equality.

    Can't murder a fetus. This isn't the 1600's anymore; women are people too and have the right to make choices about their own bodies.

    Gosh a ruddies! November 8 is the perfect example of unequal outcomes. A woman and a man compete for an office. The women gets 3 million more votes but loses the election.

    She lost the election because she thought she was entitled to win. Plus she had a lot of baggage Oh by the way 3 million voter fraud.
