Elected Officials

  • gabuckeye
I don't get into politics too much, nor is it a high priority for me, but I thought it was interesting, and unfortunately not shocking, when my professor talked about officials being more worried about actually getting elected into the system than actually delivering on any promises. I am in the Public Administration major for graduate school, which is sort of an off-shoot of my specialty in undergrad, so it is secondary information to me. My teacher used to work in Washington D.C. so she got to see that kind of stuff all the time.

It is funny to me how fired up people get over the party system and create anti-campaign attacks. In the end it seems like many politicians are just looking for a spot, and could care less about what beliefs they portray. I know this is not always the case, but to me this is just another example of flaws in our system. The teacher I have is an African native, so she has a different perspective than many of us.

But that's just my two cents. I doubt you'll see me around here too much.

    gabuckeye,

Nothing wrong with what you posted and I like that you're still learning and haven't been die-casted yet. Keep it and keep posting!

But, I agree with alot of what you said. I'm to the point (for better or for worse) where I'm very cynical and critical of the people we elect for alot of the reasons you said.

Well it is hard for politicians to keep promises. To get elected these days you have to make promises to dozens of special interest groups. I believe FDR had to make something like 50 campaign promises and Clinton made more than 400. It is impossible to keep that many.

So you are correct in that they just say what they need to say to get elected.

I think people should only be elected for one term, whether it be 4 years or 6. If they are up for reelection, over half of their term will be spent campaigning instead of actually doing something with their time.

Sadly what you say is true. But as American citizens this should be absolutely unacceptable

if you would like to see a video of why this is happening here is a great one. Its a series of videos just bookmark it and have a look when you have the time. But it is amazing and a true shame what is going on!
