Or try google if you don't like the bias. It's not exactly a hidden fact.

I'm not buying it. It appears they are including the cost of the trials also; there would be a murder trial regardless of the ultimate sentence, would there not? And I note the data seem to come from California; obviously in that fucked up state they could figure out a way to make it cost more to put the convicted to death versus life in prison. I am sure in most states, a trial could occur, appeals could run a few years, and then execution. California no doubt allows appeals and extensions to run forever, and then probably end up never executing the convict, but still count it in their cost analysis to skew it.

Not all murder trials seek the death penalty. That's the difference.

    A trial is a trial.

    You don't live in reality.

Please explain how the trial costs differ when seeking to convict one of murder wherein the prosecution is seeking the death penalty versus life in prison. Same attorneys, same witnesses, same judge, same court, same everything ........except the sentence after the trial.

    1) Attorneys spend more time and allocated more staff for death penalty cases
    2) The law states you must have two defense attorneys on cases seeking the death penalty
    3) Separate sentencing phases from; adds more time to trials
    4) Special rules allowing for expert testimony; not cheap
    5) Defense usually will spend money to hire comprehensive evaluations, medical and mental
    6) Automatic appeals process to higher courts in every case; state and federal
    7) Inmates on death row are kept separate from the general population, even during sentencing. Costs about double per year than a regular inmate

I could go on and on but who cares really? You are only interested in data that supports your point of view and will reject any viewpoint that isn't consistent with your fantasy world.

The irony of course is the zealot party, the GOP, who touts such platitudes as "Only god can judge" is the same party that supports killing people legally.

Tell me more about your morals and ethics.

One is judging your soul for eternity based on the acceptance of Christ while the other is judging the human actions according to the law they function under.

So it's okay to play god?

Anyways, we can start a new thread if you want but I can go all day shredding and ripping any organized religion to pieces. It's a joke at best.
  • Con_Alma
Nope. Didn't say it was O.K. to play God.

I think you already have went all day "shredding and ripping any organized religion to pieces" on this forum. If you want to revisit it, the thread(s) should still be available on here... I think.

How about a vacation trip to shark land .. simple solution one life jacket, large body of water, time to think, darkness, little chum ...nothing the dig up or find ... I think more would rethink what they do if they knew what was to come...

It's available on any religion thread posted ever on the OC. Barely tried because destroying religion is easier than your mom.

You'll do what you wish then*....start another thread to discuss it or revisit those that already exist. I'll enjoy reading them as much as I think you may enjoy posting them.

Yeah, I thought it was common knowledge it costs more to execute people than a life term.

It's not a deterrent, it's more expensive, doesn't really do much for families of the victims, and more than a few innocent people have been executed. Plus, I think a death sentence is letting people off easy vs. life in max security.

Really not a single justifiable reason to have the death penalty....unless you turn it into Running Man, televise it and profit!

The irony is this: the millions of those following the values of their Christian faith are far less likely to commit crime and thus are much less of a drag on 'the system', which saves you a lot of money. And since you are all about money, you should be plenty happy that Christianity is saving you a bundle.

This really has nothing to do with my point that religion is based on zero logic and instead relies of repression, childhood indoctrination, fear, and ignorance to persist.

The millions claiming to be doing so, no. The tens that actually do so, perhaps.

The more one wears their religion, any religion, on their sleeve, the greater chance they're a complete piece of shit.

No matter one's stance on the death penalty (I am morally for it as due punishment for the crime, but economically against it, if that makes sense), I can't honestly believe that QO or anyone else for that matter honestly didn't know that a death penalty case/trial/execution costs far more than a life sentence case/trial/life in prison.

I believe this to be true for people in general. Atheists that "wear it on their sleeve" tend to be assholes as well. Vegans who "wear it on their sleeve" tend to be douchebags. I could keep going.

An atheist, a vegan, and a cross fitter walk into a bar. We only know because within 2 minutes they told everyone.
