    Why not both?

I'm completely in favor of requiring photo IDs for all voters. My precinct asks me to show my drivers license when I sign in to vote. I am absolutely fine with this.

I also think all of the loopholes should be closed and all gun buyers should be subject to a background check. I also think that anyone of a terrorist or no-fly watchlist should be barred from buying a firearm.

how do you handle private sales? that is the only thing that currently does not require a background check, and i don't see how you could enforce it.

Photo ID for voters, which would ensure legal residency (I would hope). Background check unnecessary. You could take care of that during the issuing of said ID.

Background checks for gun owners. Ridiculously stupid NOT to.

    Both are important.

In DC, they don't even ask to see ID. You just tell them your name and if that name is registered then you get to vote.

Yup, I was pretty surprised the first time I voted in DC. Could easily vote for somebody else.

Can you (or anyone) explain what this loophole is? I've had to go through a background check for every gun I've purchased.

If the quality of the list wasn't a typical government back-alley abortion, I could get behind this. The accuracy of the list is appalling.

Many states do not require background checks at gun shows if you purchase from private dealers.

    Thanks for the explanation.

I'd be curious why the president is so concerned about new gun laws when his administration has prosecuted tens of thousands less cases than his predecessor. Will he answer this in the upcoming town hall broadcast? Will it even be asked?

From private dealers, or from individuals who are not dealers?

Will any of these new "policies" help prevent crazy people from killing people? I don't understand how background checks and dumping a bunch of money into SMART GUNS!! helps to prevent crazies from killing others? I'm all for taking a look into this problem we have, but it sounds like Obama is just using these attacks to push an agenda he's been trying to push since he took over in office. He is literally up there crying trying to get congress to pass something.

He is quite literally OCD on guns, as are his minions that push policies that will have little or no effect....JUST TO DO SOMETHING.

I think it is caused primarily by their mindset that government can and should fix every problem big or small. Most important, it is necessary to at least DO SOMETHING, even if it is ineffective, no matter how much it costs, no matter whether you trample rights or the Constitution, just to maintain the narrative and the appearance that BIG government solves problems, and to push the needle a little bit on their elitist agenda of knowing what's best for everybody.

It is telling that the WH is taking time and effort to focus on ineffective and or minor domestic policy, when the mid east is conflagrating in to a cluster****.
In much the same way that a Las Vegas fundraiser was more important than an attack on our embassy in Benghazi, the Prez seems to be MIA in managing the developing crisis in Saudi, Iran, Kuwait, and Afghanistan. In true narcissistic style he focuses on the things he wants to, and ignores the rest.

Meanwhile ISIS has its hands on chemical weapons.

The North Koreans likely just conducted a new nuclear test today. It will not be long now and the Iranians will be doing the same. But we got the best deal we could. The Saudis will follow.

Afghanistan is a joke and will suffer the same fate as Iraq. Large swaths of their territory will fall into the hands of the enemy. The land will once again be a base and breading ground for those lusting to bring war to the West. Its a shame that our government sends our young people to be sitting ducks over there no longer having the will to deploy the force necessary to see it through. These people are left to die in vain.

We faced an enemy once just as radical if not more so than these Jihadists. In terrain just as terrible. In lands far from our borders. The enemy fought to the death and considered death a better fate than surrender. They deployed suicide attackers in droves against us. Political ROE did not exist. No one was worried about winning over the populous with a dickless COIN strategy (now a proven failure).

What defeated this enemy and their ideology? Our willingness to deploy force that would result in the complete destruction of their military and the civilian population that was supporting it. The Imperial cult was defeated and the emperor was forced to bow his knee. As a result his descendants are nothing more than figureheads. The Japanese people are today a passive nation. The emperor is no longer a deity just a figurehead.

Japan is now one of our greatest allies. For 70 years we have had troops based on Japanese land. They are there in force and the enemy was defeated. Japanese nut bags are not running bomb laden motor bikes into American military vehicles.

This is some serious, scary stuff that goes way beyond "just politics". The Prez is in denial. He'd rather fight republicans and half the country than face Kim, Putin, or the sheiks or the ayatollahs.
Consider the irony of worrying about a few semiautomatic assault rifles in America vs a global nuclear arms race?... Will we care about carbon dioxide when a few bombs go off?

We may complain about being the world's "policeman" but the fact is the world counts on us for stability. It counts on us economically to provide a stable dollar. It counts on us to provide moral stability geopolitically by providing leadership and protecting freedom and human rights, and it counts on us to be strong militarily to enforce transgressions against humanity thru the sometimes necessary use of force and the credible diplomatic application of the threat of force and the will to use it.
Scary stuff this is. I fear the lid is off Pandora's box.

More voter fraud prevention documentation 7 87.50%
Voters: 8. You have already voted on this poll

View Poll Results: What more important
Voters 5. You have already voted on this poll
More background check for gun purchases 4 80.00%
More background check for voters 1 20.00%

So 8 and 5 voters from an online poll from a site that is probably geared towards certain political beliefs tells us what?
