The WAR Against Women

  • O-Trap
If we assume that a true "war on women" exists ... that is to say that if we believe there to be a mass organized assault on the rights of women ... then let's not simply stop at earning numbers.

What about average sentence term for someone convicted of a sex crime?
Men receive an average of 63% more jail time for convictions of the same crime in federal court.

Custody of children in case of a split?
While stats vary, men receive custody of their children far less often. Even if we throw out cases where the father didn't try to beat the numbers, fathers only win about 33% of contested cases.

    Choice for parental responsibility?
Upon becoming pregnant, a woman has the right to choose whether or not to assume responsibility for the child once it is born. A man, however, is not given that option and is almost always required to be financially responsible for the child based on the inclinations of the mother. While a man doesn't have the right to tell a woman what to do with her body (and subsequently, her child), she has the ability to, with the blessing of the courts, tell him what to do with his wallet, even against his will. In essence, she has a say in whether or not she wishes to be responsible for the child. He does not, and the fact that he does not is based entirely on his gender.

    The draft?
Male citizens (and even some who aren't) between the ages of 18-25 are required by law to register for the draft. Female citizens of any age are not required. The law, as it is written, applies only to some, and its process of selection is based exclusively on gender.

    Outside the courts?
Social pressures require men in relationships to be the sources of financial expenses, even prior to children. A man is expected to pay for dates, buy the engagement ring, etc.

I'm not suggesting that there aren't places where women as a whole seem to be less adequately represented than they should be, and I'm in complete support of anyone whose efforts are toward the end of correcting that. I'm saying it happens to both genders depending on the arena. In the end, it's enough so that the OECD essentially calls it a wash:
