Iraq War and the Subsequent Mission Creep
-
FootwedgeOn another thread, the subject went off tangent and I am the culprit for it happening. If anyone wants to debate what really went down in the pretext for that war, discuss it here.
Mission creep is a term that describes indirect consequence from an event, used quite often as it relates to military operations. After the Gulf War. Dick Cheney publicly supported Bush 41's policy of not invading Iraq, because of the inevitable mission creep that would transpire. Oh, how things change. -
FootwedgeLOL at those that are scratching their heads...that a radical Islamic terrorist group is now controlling Iraq. Well what the fuck did you expect to happen? And somehow this is Obama's fault? Really?

FootwedgeTook my mother in for eye surgery about 6 months ago and struck up a conversation with the nurse. I innocently asked her what her husband did for a living and she replied that her husband was killed in Iraq. She went on to say that her husband entered the war because he believed what the president said..that Iraq was in cahoots with bin Ladin and was responsible for 9-11. She then called Bush a lying son of a bitch. She has 3 kids that will never play catch in the front yard with their dad. There are 4200 other similar stories to tell.
If people don't wanyt to reference the Iraq 1 and 2 reports, or the Downing street memos, then google the Office of Special Plans. The OSP was the official lie factory of theBush administration, coining all the "talking points" on WMD, terrorism and impending war in Iraq.
In September of 2002, Meet the Press and face the Nation had The VP. the Secretary of Defense. and the Secretary of State say these things.
1. Al Quada was trained in Iraq.
2. Saddam Hussein met with Al Quada members prior to 9-11.
3.. The WMD are located in Tikrit.
4. Iraq attempted to buy yellowcake uranium from Nigeria for a nuclear weapon. (Also repeated in Bush's State of the Union speech in January of 2003.)
And many other blatant lies, as thoroughly depicted in the Iraq Study groups 1 and 2. But nooooo. The administration didn't lie...they just made a "few mistakes." -
FootwedgeAnd then you have the same band of neocons who are now blaming Obama for the rise of an Islamic extremist group taking over Iraq. What exactly did they think would happen? Let's review. We bombed a country because they were involved in 9-11, which they weren't and we bombed their country because they had all these WMD which they didn't have. And somehow this didn't incentivize terrorsists from reforming..only stronger? Study after study after study...since 2003, terrorism has risen and will continue to rise. We never learn our lesson.
The Iraq war was Bush's war and clusterfuck. Don't blame Obama for anything that happens henceforth.
